First World Basketball Title Since 1994?

Can this be correct? The U.S., using professional players, hasn't garnered some type of World Championship since '94? That is incredible.

More importantly, he guaranteed the Americans a chance at their first world title since 1994. They will play Turkey or Serbia on Sunday.

The international game is not well suited to the American style of play. Strategy and off ball skills are mostly lost arts in today's NBA; those who posses them tend to be from other countries.

It's a reflection of the mindset of the players. Hi, I'm cool. Watch me go one-on-one against 5 guys. It's why the NBA has lost so many fans. Boring games by boring players and boring coaches in the NBA. Give me the up-and-down tempo of the 70's and 80's all day long. Games with 50 turnovers and 250 points are much more fun to watch. The turnovers are a part of the tempo and the aggressive up-and-down game.

Part a function of the international game not being fully aligned with the NBA game and taking a different style, and part the American players not really caring, so you don't get the best team. The Olympics is exciting and special, so the best players show up. The FIBA world championships, not so much. You essentially get a US B team, even this year.
