Reds Acquire Bloomquist, Designated Del Rosario for Assignment

Reds acquired INF-OF Willie Bloomquist from the Royals for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Bloomquist is batting .265/.296/.388 with three home runs and 17 RBI in 170 at-bats this season. The 32-year-old will not be eligible for the playoffs, but he's a useful utility man, capable of playing all over the diamond.

Completely and utterly pointless. We're going to boot someone from the 40 man and not see if any of our future players are worth it???

We're actually trading a live body and/or cash for someone with a CAREER OPS of .653???

I assume they'd just transfer Edmonds or Nix to the 60 instead of removing someone from it.

They may release Edmonds, I don't think he will be available to play again. He is as good as retired.

Bloomquist gives the Reds a body that can play defense in 6 of the 8 positions, and run the bases effectively. I don't think this is a bad move, especially if Bruce won't be able to play every day.
What if this is as good as it gets?

Doesn't Todd Frazier play both infield and outfield? Walt was working night and day turning over every stone and the result is Willie Bloomquist? The Big Lebowski has a new favorite Red.
Zero chance the Reds miss the playoffs!

No need to put Frazier on the 40 when he's not ready nor eligible for the Rule V next year.

How about any of the players in Louisville, now that the Bats are done, they're not busy...he's the definition of not quite replacement level player...any single one of them would be able to fill this role, and wouldn't require a trade...

Yet there is a need to put Willie Bloomquist on it?

Bloomquist will likely be gone next year so that frees up a roster spot, where as if you add Frazier now, that clogs one up.

Del Rosario was DFA to make room for Bloomquist.

They played short for 2 weeks instead of DFAing Del Rosario and going with someone from their farm. Amazing.
