Does Sam LeCure have a chance to be a good middle relief pitcher for the Reds going forward?
I think so.

I think so.
In last nights game I swear I saw him hit 92 or 93 with the fastball and I dont recall seeing that when he was in the rotation. I think his stuff plays well out of the pen.
I've always thought he'd be good. Always handled guys on base very well....and Sam is a competitor.
That red nose has to throw batters off as well, so he's got that going for him.
Baseball is like church. Many attend, few understand
yea definitely something to look into, The Reds have enough young starter to last them a good 5 years, but having a good young bull pen would easily push them over the top.
Hey Sparky! Indian Hill English teachers taught me everything I know!
I agree. He is great at going right after and attacking hitters, which helps with his mediocre repertoire. To be a successful pitcher out of the bullpen you need that kind of mentality. And as Aubash mentioned he has picked up a few mph out of the bullpen, which most pitcher will do because they don't have to pace themselves for the long haul of 6+ innings.
So far so good, let's hope he keeps it up.
"Today was the byproduct of us thinking we can come back from anything." - Joey Votto after blowing a 10-1 lead and holding on for the 12-11 win on 8/25/2010.
LeCure also fills the bill for a "sixth starter", something Davey Johnson always liked to have in the bullpen. He's somebody who can throw multiple innings and even start in an emergency.
Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet ya.
He throws strikes.
He looked really good at the game today in his two innings of relief. I think he can do a really good job in the bullpen. Good thing the rosters expand soon so we can handle having a larger than normal bullpen right now but geesh, what do we do for the post season??!
"I tried to play golf, but I found out I wasn't very good." -Joey Votto on his offseason hobby search
An MLB.com reporter asked what one thing Votto couldn’t do. “I can’t skate or play hockey,” Votto said. “Well, I can skate ... but I can’t stop.”
If he can throw strikes and get grounders and pitch a few innings at a time on occasion, I'll be happy.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
I've liked LeCure all along. I think he definitely has a place on this staff and I suspect it's likely in the bullpen, but I'm not completely convinced yet that it's not as a starter.
He can't hit like Micah Owings, but he sure can pitch better. He's someone I certainly don't mind having on the roster--well, for now, at least.
It has been a small sample, but I like LeCure in in middle relief. Sometimes the best are failed starters who find themselves when they are concentrating on fewer innings and mastering fewer pitches.
