Week 3: Bengals at the Panthers

I'd like to focus on the play before the half. IMO, it's about 95% all on Carson because if you watch the replay, there is absolutely not much urgency to get another play off. It's as if everyone's taking their grand ole time getting to the line. That is the QB's job. Even with Roland and his lard butt 10 yards behind field, the play could've easily been spiked sooner had there been any type of urgency from the QB.

What makes you think Jake Delhomme or Wallace are going to be able to score on the Bengals D?

Replacing Roland with Smith I think would be big right now. Part of me wonders why they can't move Bobbie Williams to RT and play Smith inside, it seems to me that a vet like Williams could do it and you'd be upgrading the line overall. Or just play Smith at RT and take your chances, I don't honestly care. Dennis Roland reminds me a lot of Dan Coats last year, he's probably one of the worst players in the NFL.

Well, the Bengals D hasn't been as good as one would think. The Bengals are currently 22nd in the NFL in rush yards per attempt against a rather average NE rushing offense and a Carolina team that was 1 dimensional against a rookie QB. Baltimore, in my opinion, severely underutilized Ray Rice in that game. Carolina had some good success running the ball even with their arm basically having 1 arm tied behind their back. Even one of their fumbles was the Carolina back simply losing the ball.

As for Andre Smith, the guy is a complete waste and will always be one. I knew it when he was drafted and I know it now. If he was inactive this week because of discipline, then that'd be one thing. But he hasn't been playing mostly becuase he's not in shape and he's just not that good. After 1.5 years in the league and he still doesn't 'get it.' Roland or any other average or mediocre OL is better than Smith right now.

Well, yeah, there's that - a sportsbook, but I meant as far as being a serious candidate for the job. I don't consider 8 to 1 odds (which is pure speculation anyway) serious consideration.

Huh? Take out the NE game and the D has been great. Its the sole reason they are 2-1. Yea that loss is on them as well. As for Ray Rice there is a reason they went away from him. Don't let one bad game skew the numbers on the Bengals D. If the offense had been clicking at all your looking at two straight blowouts instead of two straight low scoring games.

In Andre Smith's contract if he doesn't meet weight or isn't on the active roster his paycheck is cut in half. I don't know the real reason that Andre didn't dress, I think its more because they didn't plan on using the jumbo package against Carolina. But I do feel that now is the time, Rolland just isn't the answer anymore. The better question is was he ever the answer?

Yeah, he was mentioned as a candidate. As to whether he was seriously considered, I don't know. Probably not, but that's a different standard altogether than being mentioned.

Bratkowski was a somewhat hot prospect a few years ago as a head coaching candidate. I don't know if any owners liked him but the press sure did. Here's another example from 2007:
