Tom Seaver and Doug Bair combined on a three-hitter in a losing effort for the Reds. The only hits for the Astros were a two-out RBI single by Jose Cruz in the first inning, a leadoff double by Art Howe in the second, and a one-out double by Terry Puhl in the sixth.
