Bucky Walters pitched a five-hit shutout to get the win for the Reds, and even the best-of-seven Series at 3-3. Walters, a converted third baseman, also helped his cause with a home run in the eighth inning off Tigers reliever (and future Reds manager) Fred Hutchinson. It was Hutch's only career World Series appearance.

The Reds would advance to the World Series to face the AL Champion Red Sox, who swept the Athletics 3-0 in the ALCS, with Game 1 to be played in Boston on October 11.

The only good game of this playoff series. John Candelaria nearly shut down the Reds as he struck 14 in this game. It was one of the few times this Reds team looked not so good at the plate. But they found away in the end like they had all season and pulled the game and series out.
