    He's a very good minor leaguer. That's the extent of it. As Doug's numbers show... guys with those rates don't stick in the majors. And that's the real crux. He's nothing more (right now) than a glorified AAA star with enormous power potential.

    If he starts walking more or continues to strike out much less... then he'll be "very good." Until then, you're looking at a career minor leaguer.

    Your parenthesis have the key point -- Lots of guys have an ability to strike a lot and not walk very much. There are 100s of 'em in the minor leagues right now. Very, very few have the other skills which are needed to get in to the major leagues and accrue significant playing time. Usually some extreme skill such as speed, power, or defensive value.

    It's so obvious we sometimes overlook it -- playing time is a really good proxy for performance.
    Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
