3B Eric Cambell Signs With Reds

Signed out of the Independent Northern League. It appears he signed with a guaranteed double-A spot in place.

Not earth-shattering, but probably a pretty good signing as org-filler alone.

I'm impressed by his plate discipline, and we all know Carolina needs help. This could be a great transaction.

Very good signing, IMHO. At one point in time, he was high in the Braves' priorities. I am not sure why that changed, but I think this is a talented, low-risk flier.

Interesting. I saw him play high school baseball against my older brother. He is (by far) the best high school player I ever saw. I followed him after he graduated from high school...he had a great few years and just seemed to fizzle out. Hope he regains the form he used to have.
This will not change until the Reds win the World Series.......

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

So the Northern League is generally considered comparable to Low A or High A?

Here's Campbell's numbers on The Baseball Cube from last season

Certainly the best he's done since he was in Low A, but then again, he's 25 years old. I agree, it's not bad filler, but I wonder what potential he has still.

It looks like his defense is questionable.

Some would say his attitude was questioned at times too.
If you have a losing record at Reds games, please stop going.

The Northern League quality would be High A to AA.
