I'd rather listen to Kelch read the phone book than suffer through Thom Brennaman's attempt to make every instance on the field the most important event since the discovery of manned space flight. -westofyou

He would be an idiot to decline it. I am deeply surprised the Dodgers exercised the option. I wonder if this is foreshadowing and insurance of them moving a certain OFer?

LaRoche is coming off a 100-RBI year in which he hit 20+ homeruns for the sixth consecutive season. I'm mildly surprised a team doesn't think he's worth ~$6M.

LaRoche has been a league average-ish 1B over the course of his career, so not only is he nothing special, but he's also coming off a year in which he only managed to get on base 32% of the time. That kind of production isn't particularly difficult to replace. He's also 30, so he's not all that likely to improve.

Nix has put up better numbers than Ankiel.

Not for Ankiel. Loads of evidence that he doesn't get on base.

You'd want Ankiel over a platoon of Nix and Gomes?
