    Reds Re-Sign Miller

    Pretty much expected:

Reds re-signed C Corky Miller to a minor league contract.
Miller, who turns 35 in March, will also get an invite to spring training. He batted .243/.282/.392 with two homers and nine RBI in 74 at-bats with the Reds this past season. He'll likely only find his way back on the major league roster in the event of an injury.

I'm glad to see Corky remain in the Reds organization. I hope he lands a coaching job with the Reds after his playing days are over.

Great mentor for Mesoraco in Louisville (and maybe later in the bigs).

I was thinking along the same lines here. Actually I think the writing is on the wall that this may be Corky's last season as a player with the Reds. He will be surpassed by Mesoraco this season on the depth chart and you have to believe that Grandal will be surpassing him soon as well.

Corky is a replacement level player. IMO having a few of these type of guys stashed in AAA as insurance is a great idea. In past years they filled out the Reds 25 man roster.

I was thinking whether re-signing Corky forshadowed anything regarding Mes. I don't think so.
    1) Walt could still think Mes needs more AAA time. He brought Corky back as a mentor. Walt will try to sign some cheap backup catcher to go with Hanigan until Mes is ready.
    2) Walt thinks Mes could be ready at the start of the season but isn't sure. Corky can be the backup catcher if Mes struggles in spring training or if Mes makes the team Corky is the 3rd catcher stashed at AAA in case of injury.

In either scenario bringing Corky back on a minor league deal makes sense.

    He proved valuable in 2010.

I can see him performing the same role in 2011 for the same reasons.

I suspect that following his career, Corky will become a coach.
