So far, he hasn't raked beyond a few games here and there. He's certainly not raked for an entire season, as he needs to.

Anyone who considers the jury still out on Alonso would be guilty of nothing more than healthy skepticism at this point. His swing (which looks long), his apparent defensive shortcomings, and his lack of power all point to a middling career as a possible 1B starter. His pedigree, limited production in a few ABs over the course of a season, and scouting tools all point to improved numbers with health and patience.

You say we need patience. Fair enough. But if he doesn't hit this year, whatever trade value he might have had is done completely.

Keeping him in AAA isn't the sure-fire, easy decision many are assuming, IMO. There are some downsides to that plan.
Alonso HAS raked while he has been healthy. The guy got hurt in late June of 2009. Before that, he hit .303/.383/.497 in the Florida State League. Then the one year mark from his injury (which has been long accepted as the 'fully healthy return point' for most hamate injuries), he went on and hit .347/.421/.592. Fact is, when the guy has been 100% healthy, he has torn the cover off of the ball.

Here's the key question. Is "project" in Project Prospect pronounced prahject as in "I am working on a project" or is it more pro-ject as in "I will project into the future?"

That one I can't tell you. You would have to ask the Adams (Foster and Loberstein). My guess is that they took on a project of trying to find a better way to evaluate prospects than what was going on at the time.

Doh! Thanks for catching that. I don't have the file with me to fix it now, but I'll make the correction when I get home next week.

It was something I came up with at 3:00 am one summer night in college. I was thinking of project as a large undertaking when I came up with it.

Loberstein came on a few months after I created the site. He and I were both sports writers on the UC Davis student paper's sports desk.
