I think WD works best with them traveling but how in the world do you carry this on for say 10 seasons ?

True Detective was basically perfect. A top tier show that slots with the best ever made.

I enjoyed True Detective, but I feel like there could have been more. I don't know, maybe I'm not used to tv shows totally wrapping up in 8 episodes.
The ending scene was very well done.
I felt let down a bit by TD. It wasn't bad by any stretch but a chase through the woods is not what I wanted.
It's a great show and I think McCaughnahey should win an Emmy for it, but I felt like the first 7 episodes were better than the last. I'll still watch next season, however.

Cosmos.
Amazing. informative, educational, but presented in a way that keeps it entertaining and fun.
I agree completely. I liked the episode, I liked the end scenes in the hospital. I even like that not everyone involved in the crimes were brought to justice. I just wish they would have included 5 minutes more to explain some of the details of the cult, etc.
The whole thing of "it's not a show about solving a mystery or clues, it's a show about a character's journey" is faulty thinking. It's a false dilemma. You can write something that is both a character's journey and solves the mysteries and explains things.
Overall, that was one great season of television, even if the last episode left me slightly underwhelmed.

I think they explained quite a bit about the cult, however I would have missed some of it if I weren't reading Alan Sepinwall's and the AV Club's recaps.

Agree. People only seem to say that after the show is over. The same thing happened with Lost imo, which was also a disappointment. Some people convince themselves that they love the way a show ended before it has actually ended, and sort of pigeon hole the ending to fit that preconceived idea. The first 7 episodes was a crime story involving 2 cops, and the last seemed to be a cop story involving a crime.
Great show overall and I can't wait for the next season, but I think you nailed it with the word "underwhelmed." Not bad, clearly, but I didn't want or expect 30 minutes of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I loved the first episode of "Cosmos." My one complaint - and I'm definitely nitpicking here - was that the editing seemed a bit off. For example, Tyson's tribute to Carl Sagan at the end seemed like it should've belonged at the beginning of the show instead.
Still, it was fascinating stuff and I can't wait for the next one.

That is what I liked most about the series. I knew it was only 8 episodes going in and that the story was going to be told exactly the way the creator wanted. Since I knew no matter what these characters weren't coming back it made the last episode so suspenseful. Anything could have happened. Anyone on that show could have died. Unlike most season finales where the main players are going to go mostly unchanged and they drag every single storyline out for seasons till you do not care anymore.
In retrospect, this is obviously true.
People wanted more of the "cult" psyche, however. And the show played that up early, with the wonderful, deep literary references and the symbology. But then at the end, that's all it was, with no meaning and that was slightly disappointing, even as much as I enjoyed the series. Beautifully filmed and edited. Terrific dialogue. And some of the best acting ever... By both leading men (I think Woody's performance has been wayyyyy underrated).
I still loved it, even though I didn't find out everything I wanted.
When all is said and done more is said than done.
Did anyone else catch the first hour of Resurrection the other night? It was good enough to make me want to watch the second episode. For all its' schmaltzy promos, there's a bit of a dark side to whatever is happening in that town.

I liked True Detective. What I gathered from the interviews with the creator is that they shot enough scenes to make each episode an hour and thirty minutes and sometimes the editing shouldn't have been left to two people who wrote and filmed every scene. Pizzolatto said they probably shouldn't have showed the Barbie scene yet it's a recollection of a memory seventeen years ago.
I got the Americans to tide me over until Madmen.
