    Re: Recommended Podcasts

I'm also crazy addicted to comedy podcasts. I subscribe to these:

Doug Love Movies - Hilarious host and guests, I love the Leonard Maltin Game
Pod F. Tompkast - Ramblings and skits from my favorite comedian on the planet
Comedy Bang Bang - Improv humor in an "interview" format
How Did This Get Made - The most laugh-out-loud funny one, they make fun of terrible movies
Nerdist - Genuinely smart and funny hosts interview interesting guests. Can sometimes get too raunchy for my tastes
WTF - Another smart interview show, more serious

    The non-comedy ones:

Filmspotting - Thoughtful movie reviews and fun top 5 lists
In Our Time - Expert panels talk about a really wide variety of subjects.
"I never argue with people who say baseball is boring, because baseball is boring. And then, suddenly, it isn't. And that's what makes it great." - Joe Posnanski

I also highly recommend "How Did This Get Made?".

I'll listen to Nerdist if it's a guest I really like.

Comedy Bang Bang is weird for me because I just can't get into it and I don't know why. I like Scott as a guest on other shows but for some reason him hosting is just a little too much Hot Saucerman for me.

I'll also listen to TJ Miller's and Pete Holmes' podcasts occasionally but those two are nuts. If they did a podcast together I would probably listen, I love when they're on DLM together.

New one I just found, for those with a little less time at a sitting.

Hilarious. Funnier than most, and I've been a fan of comedy podcasts and podcasts in general for quite some time.

Some of my favs not listed.

Mondays on the Grantland Network: The Jalen Rose show. Just awesome.
Ace on the House: Carolla with his old buddy Ray.
    This American Life
    Freakonomics Radio
    Startalk with Neil DeGrasse Tyson
The NBA Today (only with Ryen Russillo)
The Dan LeBatard Show (probably my favorite sports show)
The Bugle (it is political, but comedically. It has John Oliver from the Daily Show and Andy Zaltzman, a Classics major and pun lover - two major loves of mine)
    Variatio delectat - Cicero

If you love listening to stories about the seedy underbelly of stand-up comedy, then you need to subscribe to the Jay Mohr podcast (Fake Moustache Studios)

Have you listened to the Leno episode yet? I loved his stand up stories.

Have not listened to that one yet, but I did enjoy the one with Dave Atell (entitled 'Peeling the Onion')

    Re: Recommended Podcasts

I like comedy podcasts to get me through my awful 3rd shift job. I worked 12 hour shifts for 4 years so I accumulated quite a collection to get me through.

The Pod F. Tompkast - Odd/funny, usually a new episode once a month.

The Dana Gould Hour. Also odd, highly produced for a podcast. If you like Dana Gould, it's quite good.

The Complete Guide to Everything. Great for people in their late 20's early thirties. Two New Yorker hipsterish guys talking about nearly nothing for an hour, I enjoy it.

Stop Podcasting Yourself. Feel good happy comedy. Two Canadians having a good time with a random guest every week. always puts me in a good mood.

Jordan Jesse GO!. Same as Stop Podcasting yourself only in California.

NPR Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. NPR news quiz on the weeks news. High quality.

Comedy Bang Bang, descriptions above are pretty accurate.

Mike and Tom Eat Snacks. Tom Cavanagh and Michael Ian Black pick a Snack, Eat a Snack and Rate a Snack.

NPR Ask Me Another. Another NPR show but just random Trivia.

Never Not Funny. One of the first podcasts ever. Comedian Jimmy Pardo and his crew interview a comedian for about an hour and 45 min. it's a paid podcast. Pretty funny if you like Jimmy Pardo.

The Nerdist. The Podcasting standard. Smart, funny and yes sometime vulgar. Almost always puts out quality, Some of the "Hostfull" (no guest) episodes are not for everyone, but they are usually my favorites.

    This American Life.

WTF: Marc Maron's public therapy sessions. Usually interesting.

Who Charted? Comedian Howard Cramer interviews comedians/friends using Music/Movie pop charts as a template. very odd, less and less listenable.

Espn has a Baseball Today podcast that stays current on a nearly daily basis. 30-45 min.

    CBB, of course.

Pod F Tompkast packs about 30 solid minutes of laughs into a 90-minute podcast. Paul, I love you, but man, you can trim it down a bit.

The Dead Authors podcast starring Paul F. Tompkins is really hilarious, but it doesn't come out often enough.

A friend of mine recommended Superego (more PFT connections). I'm going to give it a shot this weekend.

Yeah, Superego is pretty fantastic. They did a "G.I. Joe Role Call" bit that was amazing. "I'm Pot Roast. Destro set me on fire a couple of months ago."

I'm also in the middle of a crazy bit about letters from soldiers in the Civil War.

The latest Mohr Stories with Charlie Sheen. 2 things I learned: Charlie thinks Homer Bailey will win a Cy Young and Charlie has a deep love for baseball, the way we love baseball.

When Martin had a heart attack filming Apocalypse Now his rehab was throwing the baseball with Charlie. Kinda cool.

Are we sure that Charlie isn't one of us? Hey, he's web savvy and a Reds fan. This is the best Reds related site--not just discussion board--out there. You never know.

Btw others have mentioned Dan Carlin's Hardcore History, he also has a political podcast called Common Sense. Itinerant better than it's title, which had been overused. He hares both parties. Just listened to a brilliant show today in which he begs someone to buy CNN and let him run it.
