Kris Negron did NOT break out this year.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Lots of love on here for Duran. Interesting player. Dave Kingman power, offensive numbers this year really improved. Improving as a hitter, no doubt. But creates big innings for the opponent with his mishaps in left field. Not a player who puts in the work to get better. Was taken out of many games for not hustling.

One of those players that, depending on what night you see him, can leave wildly different impressions. A recent comment by a scout to me (guy who spent over 10 years in the big leagues including time with the Reds but no longer with the Reds):

"He was missing every slider by a foot. A guy like that is never going to get to Double-A."

He will get to Double-A simply because of the amount of money invested in him. Good kid. Will he develop hunger to get better or will he be satisfied with the $2 million he already has? Comparisons to Adam Dunn or Wily Mo Pena, but lacks the athletic ability of those players. Very uncoordinated, maybe due to late growth.

Lutz is twice the player. Lutz is older but improving rapidly due to lack of previous experience growing up in Germany. Not sure why Lutz does not get more attention. All he did was hit .301 with 20 jacks. No Dragons player had done that since Austin Kearns 11 years ago.

Have to agree with Lutz. He probably had the most growth in the second half of the season of any guy not named Hamilton.

Went .340/.396/.543 in the Second Half.

Cut his K% from 34.4 to 20.4 as well...

Instructive. In many cases, track record/intangibles comes to take precedence over prospect pedigree/draft status. Organizations that fail to recognize that do themselves a huge disservice.
