    Herschel Walker Anyone?

Herschel Walker is considering trying out for the Atlanta Falcons this summer

    http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2011/01/24/a...-nfl-comeback/

At age 48 he thinks he can still play. He claims to still be able to run a sub 4.4 40 yd dash.

He could probably play a game but at his age I seriously doubt he could hold up to the rigors of RB in the NFL. That said I hope he tries it. This would be a fun story. Again staying healthy would be the key and hopefully he doesn't seriously hurt himself. Most current NFL players are trying to retire before they get seriously hurt. Here Herschel is feeling so "healthy" he wants back in. Go figure.

Herschel Walker is legit, he's in the most incredible shape of any performance athlete I've ever seen. The key apparently: eating nothing but soup and bread every day, and doing his crazy calisthenics workout each and every single day. He ran a sub 4.4 as recently as last year, he doesn't claim to be a future champion in MMA or an every down All-Pro back in football at his age, but the fact that he COULD get in there and help someone out should not be ignored because of his age, as I've seen a lot of people do when he comes up in the news. I'm a bigger fan of him now than I ever was.

I think I remember hearing that, when arriving to the Georgia campus, he had never even lifted weights before then.

It was more like 1,000 pushups and situps every morning.

I realize Herschel is a freak of nature athletically, but a 48-year old man running a 4.3 40-yard dash? I'd have to see it.

Hey, I'm 48 and I can do it! Even better, I can run the 40 in four minutes flat!

LOL ... I'm 47 and no longer even think about attempting to stretch a power alley single into a double anymore in my over-35 softball league. Just don't trust the ole hammies these days. Herschel may indeed be able to run a 4.3 40 right now, but I would have to see it with my own eyes.

If he can still run a 4.3 40 he could probably help a team as a kick returner/punt returner.
When I see the 2016 Reds, I see a 100 loss team and no direction.

    Re: Herschel Walker Anyone?

I'd watch out of curiosity but I think it would turn into a train wreck if he took the field with regularity. 40 times are nice and all but running in a straight line is probably much easier for an athletic powerful man like Herschal Walker than it would be for him to transfer weight and change direction at the level necessary to avoid taking big hits.

The guy is a freak though, he should go all Billy Blanks/ George Foreman and market himself with something that will be more sustainable than colliding with guys half his age, JMO.

I remember Jim Brown talked about a comeback at an NFL-advanced age.

I'm not doubting he's in shape to be an NFL halfback today. However, halfbacks take a pounding, and no matter how great of shape your in, that's something age catches up to.

I think Walker would look good and produce at age 48 when healthy. The problem is I doubt he could stay healthy at that age

Didn't he do some MMA fight last year? I remember him saying that he was "in the best shape of his life"

    Re: Herschel Walker Anyone?

If anyone could it would be him. He's always been a freak of nature.

I doubt he's expecting to be someone's feature back. Could be a third down guy if he's really that quick still. But I doubt anyone will give him a shot, the league is too conservative.
