I think people are too sour on Alonso. Anybody agree? He should be a 4-star prospect. 5-star if the power shows up.

I agree. Yonder has a very good eye at the plate and showed significant power at Miami. Yonder has yet to display this kind of power with the Reds' affiliates. I hope that his lack of minor league power is due to the hamate bone injury. He was my pick to be the biggest surprise in the minor leagues this year and I really think he is going to start displaying a .900 OPS bat in AAA next year. I really hope he forces the Reds' hand next off-season trying to find him a place to play in Cincinnati.

I certainly place him above YRod, Hamilton and Grandal at this point. I wouldn't trade Alonso for any of them.

I think their age is the biggest reason Yorman and Hamilton are consistently ranked ahead of Alonso.

    did somebody mention Stubbs?

doug was right on Stubbs regarding power, and I was flat wrong. My concern was having it and not using it is the same as not having it.

Hamilton doesn't have it. period. He's Ray Olmedo with more speed..

I keep thinking of Hamilton in terms of Luis Castillo. Which isn't all bad, I guess...Castillo had some good years...

one thing on Hamilton... While tossing out comp's... Have any of them been learning to switch hit as has Hamilton? Or were they spending a full season batting from their natural side of the plate?

Correlation does not imply causation... Remember that.

Hamilton is certainly still learning to switch hit some, but he was switch hitting in high school for at least a year that I know of. So while it is new-ish, it isn't brand new. He has been doing it for at least three years now.

Sorry, don't mean to be a pedant, but the phrase is, "fall by the wayside."

Again, not trying to be an ass, sorry if it came across that way.

Since there are no teams on the moon, I guess South Korea's far enough from Cincinnati to satisfy me.

Just wanted to say that i was also wrong about Stubbs re: Doug. Amazingly good call with the use of stats and analysis.

I know nothing of Hamilton other than what I read here, so I'll preface my comments.

Considering the Reds do have Janish and Cozart, could/should the Reds consider using Hamilton's elevated rating as trade bait?
