This says it all from the article....

This still is a troubled team with a grumpy fan base.
He owes them an explanation and an apology for all the "wrongs" he committed last season? They knew what they were getting... or at least should have.... a shell of the player he once was, who was on his last hurrah.

Everyone, including Seattle fans, where he spent a decade, knows that Jr is not a "people person". And yeah, he can be moody.

But he owes them an apology about as much as he owes Cincy fans one.
"panic" only comes from having real expectations

Steve Kelley isn't even a must read for the parakeets perched above his column. I wouldn't make too much out of this.

The guy sounds a little bitter. Sure Junior probably could've handled the situation better. But, making him the scapegoat for their season? Yeah right.

"Grumpy fan base"? More like a grumpy writer. That was a truly stupid column. It often amazes me how some people get jobs in the media.

There was an article last week I saw from a woman who wrote a serious account of her inability to stop eating Snackwell cookies.

I kept thinking her next column would be about her inability to stop writing stupid articles.

Apparently the "apology" craze has not ended yet, but it is none too soon for me.

But as to the jest of this clown's argument, doesn't the fact that the Mariners hired him for anything tell you that apparently his walk was considered justified by those hiring him?

    What a joke.

Media grandstanding. Guy probably needs a radio or TV show.

A great athlete leaving the stage is rarely a crowning moment. More like a drowning. An experienced reporter should know better than to suggest there's a right way and a wrong way to do it.

the m's front office owes their fans an apology. Worst OPS in all of baseball last year belonged to the m's, they managed a paltry 637 OPS and to make things worse the middle of their lineup was anchored by Franklin Guttierrez (.666 ops). Maybe Juan Castro should still be on a roster.

What Kelley likely mostly needed was a column... he went with easy.

If Jerry Tipton of the Lexington Herald Leader still has a job, everybody in the media is safe.

It's all about getting people to read. Make something semi controversial and you'll get people to read it.

I don't think the article was about Griffey's numbers or the record of the team. It was his childish way of picking up his toys and heading home. It was somewhat abrupt. A highly unusual way of retiring to say the least
