    Babe Ruth vs. Willie Mays

Should probably be the 2 finalist, but can't get past what the Babe did and when he did it. Contrary to what some people say, I think the Babe, in his prime, would do just fine in modern game.

    Hank Aaron vs. Rickey Henderson
I love Rickey, but Hank is an amazing picture of both peak value and longevity.

    Joe DiMaggio vs. Ted Williams
To players that lost prime years to the war.
Joe was an outstanding player, but I always wondered if we would talk about him the way we do if he had played for the Phillies and never dated Marylin Monroe.

    Barry Bonds vs. Ty Cobb
Say what you will about Bonds, he's still the greatest hitter I will probably see in my lifetime.

The Babe is not only one of our greatest players but one of those rare larger-than-life figures that captures the world's imagination. His influence on the game's growth in Asia can't be put into adequate words. How many people can say that?

    Hank Aaron vs. Rickey Henderson
Hammerin' Hank is in a different league when it comes to both peak performance and long term success.

    Joe DiMaggio vs. Ted Williams
Joltin' Joe is an absolute legend by Williams gets the slight edge for pure hitting prowess. The chart showing his batting average across the entire hitting zone is remarkable.

    Barry Bonds vs. Ty Cobb
If any of us alive had seen Ty Cobb play I suspect he would win the entire contest in a run away. His contemporaries could not heap enough praise on him. It is really unfair to compare his power numbers to Bonds, but his ability to get on base during the game's most pitcher-friendly era was amazing.

    Ruth
    Aaron
    Williams
    Cobb

Babe Ruth is the greatest player in baseball history. I tried for over a decade to persuade folks that he wasn't the game's greatest player, but the argument never held any water once you dived into the objective record. Mays is a great player, arguably a top five player, but he wasn't greater than Ruth. In fact, there really only is one player in baseball history who you can make a somewhat legitimate argument for over Ruth, but that player isn't an outfielder.

    Aaron over Henderson quite easily.

Williams over DiMaggio very easily. Teddy Ballgame is a top five player; DiMaggio is arguably outside the top 20.

Cobb vs. Bonds: If you give Bonds credit for his peak, it's Cobb over Bonds by a hair. Cobb has an edge in positional value, defense and put up a run of 12-13 consecutive years where he was just a massive total force on the diamond. Bonds is one of the most underrated players ever, but Cobb has the edge.

If you do not give Bonds credit for his peak, it's Cobb over Bonds by a solid margin.

Tough draw for Willie Mays, he'd win any other match up (except maybe vs. Bond) but I just can't put him ahead of Babe Ruth.

Rickey Henderson is probably the greatest lead off hitter ever but he's just not on the same level as Hank Aaron.

    Williams in a landslide.

Bonds vs. Cobb is really tough for me, given the vast difference in the eras in which they played. Ultimately I give the edge to Bonds because he was an elite defensive player for the first ten years of his career.

    Babe Ruth vs. Willie Mays
This would have been my finalist if the bracket had fallen that way. Mays may be the greatest talent to ever play the game. But we will never know how he would have pitched. In Ruth we do know. He was a great pitcher before becoming an outfielder full time. He may have been a HOF pitcher if he had continued on that path. Also Ruth changed the game forever. He made it a power game with all his home runs and without him we would have never had the phrase "Chicks dig the longball."

    Hank Aaron vs. Rickey Henderson
Same answer as the last round. IMO,Aaron is still the HR king and gets my vote here. Besides that he was all around great player that is badly undervalued by many.
    Joe DiMaggio vs. Ted Williams
Ted Williams is the best pure hitter of all time,IMO. He could hit for power and average. If not for WWII he may had over 700 HR's and may have surpassed Ruth long before Aaron did.
    Barry Bonds vs. Ty Cobb

I just can't vote for Bonds anymore. These may be the two most vilified players of all time too. Cobb's contemporaries voted him the best and that's good enough for me.

I agree: Ruth, Aaron, Williams and Cobb. That said, if you could pair Willie Mays up against Aaron, Williams or Cobb, I would vote for Willie.

Same here. The matchup with Babe is unfortunate.

    Hank Aaron vs. Rickey Henderson
Gotta love all the homers, Aaron was just a better all-around player

    Joe DiMaggio vs. Ted Williams
One of the best hitters ever.

    Ruth, Aaron, Williams, Cobb.

If I could ignore matchups I would have an OF of Cobb, Mays, Ruth with Williams as DH, but with Mays having to go against Ruth at this point I'd have to eliminate him.

If no DH, my All Time OF would be Williams, Mays and Ruth
