With the Redskins second round pick number 41 overall the Redskins select AKEEM AYERS, OLB, UCLA.

    http://www.draftcountdown.com/sub/Mock-Draft-B.php

Say what you want about the way Chargers General Manager A.J. “Lord of No Rings” Smith operates, but at the end of the day few do a better job of accumulating talent through the draft. San Diego doesn’t have many holes but the smart money is on them addressing the defensive front seven with this pick. The Chargers finally sent Shawne Merriman packing and while Shaun Phillips is still very solid at one of the outside linebacker spots an upgrade might be needed on the other side since former first round pick Larry English is looking more and more like a bust. UCLA’s Akeem Ayers has all the physical tools that you look for and is a well-rounded player who can be a factor against the run, in coverage and, perhaps most importantly for a 3-4 team such as the Chargers, as a pass rusher. Purdue’s Ryan Kerrigan and Missouri’s Aldon Smith could be in the mix as well. San Diego could also use an upgrade at defensive end, where both Jacques Cesaire and Travis Johnson are free agents and neither is a world-beater, so keep an eye on J.J. Watt of Wisconsin, Cameron Jordan of Cal and Allen Bailey of Miami (FL). Don’t rule out a wide receiver either, depending on what ultimately happens with the whole Vincent Jackson situation.

    19. Akeem Ayers OLB UCLA
Well-rounded 'backer who could play in either 4-3 or 3-4 scheme

With 42nd selection, the Houston Texans select Torrey Smith, WR, Maryland.

Texans add a potential playmaker to go with arguably the best wide out in the league.

    http://thenationalfootballreport.com...-torrey-smith/

Torrey Smith of Maryland is the first receiver that fits the playmaker role, and one that can provide an impact on special teams as well. He too has good size at about 6’1 200, with excellent speed, and the ability to make defenders miss in the open field. Smith is a legitimate threat to score whenever he touches the ball because of his open field ability. He does have some things in common with former Terp receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey, but Smith will not bring along the responsibility of living up to the hype of a top ten selection. Like Heyward-Bey, he is a bit raw and will need to work on refining his skills to maximize his playmaking ability. He changes directions well, but doesn’t run sharp routes and will need to put in work in this area to see more action on the field. Smith also could be more consistent catching the football, though he does show good hands. The trait that Smith brings to the table that none of the three players mentioned above bring is that he can make an impact on special teams. He should be able to return kicks in the NFL while he develops his receiving skills. Like Baldwin, there is an outside chance he finds his way into the first, but carries a second round grade.

With the 44th selection, the Detroit Lions select Bruce Carter, LB, North Carolina.

This is a gamble due to his ACL surgery but if he's healthy the Lions get a potentially great LB.

    http://www.fftoolbox.com/nfl_draft/p...ospect_id=2399

Carter always seems to be around the ball and is capable of making the big play. His strength and speed are helpful, but he simply has great football instincts. That is why many considered him one of the top 10 or 15 outside linebackers heading into the 2009 campaign. Having opted to stay in school (and out of trouble), Carter's stock has moved way up and he is considered by many as the top outside linebacker in this class.

    Picking via PM from Kingspoint:

The 49er's follow their 1st Round selection of CB Patrick Peterson by...

...selecting out of Nevada, QB Colin Kaepernick.

A source told Pro Football Talk that radar gun readings have shown Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick to have the strongest arm among quarterbacks throwing at the NFL Combine.Kaepernick’s best throw came in at 59 miles per hour -- one MPH faster than Ryan Mallett's best throw and three MPH faster than Cam Newton's. FOX Sports’ Adam Caplan has said that in addition to velocity, Kaepernick was throwing "the nicest ball" at the Combine. Also the owner of a blazing 4.53 forty, Kaepernick is looking like the QB who can lead the 49er's back into the playoffs.

With the 46th pick, the Denver Broncos select:

    Kyle Rudolph, TE, Notre Dame.

Although maybe not the most glaring need, he is the BPA here, and the Broncos do not have a great TE.

The Oakland Raiders select from the land of blessed frogs the champion of greatest football name to be a quarterback and not a lineman...

Oakland selects OG/T Marcus Cannon TCU Height: 6-6. Weight: 349.

I was hoping Steve's son would fall to us to continue the family tradition but alas like Howie's son he will have to kick some butt elsewhere.

Both Gallery and Carlilse are likely done in Oakland and genetic freak Bruce Campbell struggling as a rookie, Oakland address their biggest need which is offensive line. Cannon brings an ability to immediately contribute at RG and may get a chance at RT but he comes in and contributes immediately.
