Tiki Barber Wants To Come Out of Retirement

What's up with this? Tiki Barber didn't want to play football at age 30 (on a team poised to win the Super Bowl) but he does want to play RB at age 35.

Barber’s broadcast career fizzled in 2010 when NBC did not renew his contract. This followed Barber’s confirming he would divorce his wife of 11 years, who was eight months pregnant with twins. That announcement was Barber’s only response to widespread tabloid reports that he had an affair. Barber has made intermittent broadcast appearances since then, including during the BBC’s coverage of the Super Bowl this year.

If Barber is signed by an N.F.L. team when transactions resume, he would make at least the veteran’s minimum, around $800,000 a year. His twin, Ronde, recently signed a one-year contract to play a 15th season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Anyone care to pay him $800K to play RB at age 35?

2 words...divorce, broke! He had a promising tv career that he "screwed" up, by dumping is pregnant wife and kids for someone else. NBC knew mommies in the morning were not going to watch him. It is also rumored he is hard to get along with and that hurt his tv career as well. http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment...ir-nbc-intern/

It was a mistake for him to assume his TV career would fluorish. He'd have been better served to max out his NFL earning potential first. These guys don't appreciate how hard it is to make NFL type money in the real world. Divorce, personality clashes etc...Things happen

When I saw the thread title before opening it all I saw was, Tiki Barber wants to come out...

I was wondering if he was coming out of the closet or something...long day I guess.

Maybe Brett Favre can hand balls to him on the retirement circuit.

His ex-teammate on the Giants. He is a LB but his name escapes me.....was on ESPN 1st Take... stating that he was a great player but a lousy teammate and leader.

Here we are, mid August, and no team has even had him in for a workout. He'd better have a plan B for earning a living

Reading Peter King's MMQB, Barber got zero calls from NFL teams. Zero, zip, nil, nada.

    So much for a comeback.

There was a scathing tweet about Tiki from some sportswriter a few weeks ago that basically amounted to: "A player that comes back to the game not out of love or desire to play and win but because he has bills to pay gets no calls? Shocking."

"We are flabbergasted that Tiki has not had an opportunity with any team, especially when rosters were at 90 players this year," Lepselter said. "I certainly thought some team would be intrigued to see what he had left in the tank."

With the offseason shortened by a lengthy lockout, teams could invite up to 90 players to camp.

Most teams that need running backs aren't looking for guys who are already 36 years old.
