Interesting. Was he injured last year? It looks like he went backwards in 2010.

    Bakersfield?

    Cincinnati Reds

    Released: RHP Rafael Gonzalez
Reinstated from inactive list: RHP Rafael Gonzalez

Son of former big league third baseman Charlie Hayes, Tyree got released by the Rays in December. Tampa Bay's eighth-rounder in ’06, he spent the past two seasons in low Class A, logging 110 innings with 95/44 strikeouts/walks and 10 home runs.

Why would we ever sign Hayes? and please don't answer to LOG innings because we have enough of those type pitchers already in the system.

Well, you do need guys to log innings. Guys get hurt. Guys retire. Guys aren't always ready. With that said, while I still haven't been able to track down a recent scouting report, when he was coming out of high school (5 years ago), he had a real nice arm throwing into the mid 90's at times.

    From around the web:

Though his stats aren't eye poping, whenever given the chance to produce as a starter, Hayes has the ability to put up some good numbers. The 6-foot, 1-inch 175 pounder’s repertoire includes a two seamed and four-seamed fastball, a curveball and a changeup. Though his fastball is clocked in the mid to high 80s, scouts believe as he fills out his frame and gets stronger, he’ll be throwing in the mid 90s.
Tyree throws a higher 80's fastball with a good curve, he stands at 6'1 or 6'0 depending on who your asking, but for an 18 year old (and barely that) what he did in short season Princeton was just remarkable. At such a young age it's a near certainty that Tyree will get his velocity into the mid 90's as he gets stronger.
In terms of guys in the majors that Tyree resembles, well there is really only one. This is a load of hype for the youngster, but the only guy who myself and a few others could really compare him to is a right handed Dontrelle Willis.
Obviously he's a little bit behind having repeated Princeton, and his peripherals still aren't great, but he's a "late bloomer" candidate.
A summer watching a bad Reds' team, is still a pretty good summer.
