George Herman Ruth was the best.

    Ted Williams vs. Ty Cobb
This is a very tough one but I learn towards Tyrus simply because he was a better all around player. Williams was the greatest pure hitter of all time but lets not forget Cobb has the highest all time BA of .366. Other than power I see Cobb as superior to Teddy.

Ruth over Aaron. The Hammer was great but the Babe was the greatest.
Williams over Cobb. While Cobb leads Williams in batting average at .366 to .344, Teddy Ballgame leads The Georgia Peach in both slugging percentage at .634 to .512 and in on base percentage at .482 to .433. Ted Williams could be moody and had his battles with members of the press, but seems to have been liked by his teammates, whereas Cobb was possibly the most unlikeable man to ever play MLB; I can't see a modern team tolerating Cobb.

    Semi-Finals

Babe Ruth vs. Hank Aaron - When Aaron can hit more HR in one season than other teams did combined, then we'll talk.

Ted Williams vs. Ty Cobb - Again, you ahve factor in time lost due to military service, including some of Williams' prime years.

Ruth just because IMO he was the best of all time.

I'll take Williams over Cobb but a very difficult vote. I mainly take Williams because of the power factor. He had over 500 HR's and would have around 700 if not for the wars.

Babe Ruth vs. Hank Aaron - As great as Hank Aaron was, he simply isn't in the same class as Babe Ruth.

Ted Williams vs. Ty Cobb - Really tough match up because you're trying to compare two players from different eras and weighing the impact of the years Williams lost to WWII. Ultimately I give the edge to Williams. Cobb may have the highest career BA but Williams was a career .344 hitter and he had a higher OBP and was a much better power hitter.

Babe is Baseball. Without the Babe there is no baseball as we know it. He was the original spokesman for "Chicks dig the long ball".

Ted Williams over Ty Cobb both are probably among the top echelon of their eras but when you consider Ted's war service and the numbers he could have potentially put up just makes that hill too step to climb for Ty.

Great all around hitter, plus he pitched some too.

    Ted Williams vs. Ty Cobb

Reasons and stats others have mentioned.

Mays is my #1 player of all time, but I guess he's out.

Tough call, but Ruth meant so much to baseball. To many he is baseball.

    Ted Williams vs. Ty Cobb
Another tough one but Cobb put up better numbers in era when there weren't many hits to be found.

    Ruth-Greatest player of all time

Williams-would have put up even better numbers if not for losing some years from his prime due to service.

Its a shame that the ncaa commitee put Willy Mays, Hank Aaron and Babe in the same side of the bracket. I would have loved to seen Teddy Ballgame vs Hammerin Hank or The Say Hey Kid.

    Ruth and Cobb.

Williams and Cobb was tough. I could have been convinced to vote for either one.
