    Hawpe Ks.
    Headly singles, Denorfia scores.
    Maybin pops out.

Top of second 2 zip Padres:

    Heisey singles.
Francisco goes yard to tie things up.
    Cairo Ks.
    Corky singles.
    Homer grounds into a DP.

    Hundley lines to center.
    Frandsen infield single to short.
Stauffer bunts Hundley to second. Hundley takes third on a wild pitch (Francisco didn't cover third per Thom).
    Venable strikes out.

And we are caught up. Tied at two apiece.

    Re: 03/23 Wednesday Reds/Padres

Phillips leads off the third with a bullet through the right side for a single.
(Phillips should lead off. Bruce moves up to the second spot and Stubbs drops to sixth or even seventh in the order.)
Phillips moves up to second on a single by Renteria.
Hermida grounds into a force at second. Runners on the corners. Padre shortstop on crack on that play. Instead of firing on to first to complete the double play he wheels and fires to third. A run is saved only because it hit the screen and rebounded right back to the third baseman. Brantley feels it was a tailor-made double play in the making.
Fred Lewis being Fred Lewis takes a called third strike. Lewis now 0 for 2 dropping his average to .158. Making a strong case for not making the club.
Heisey pops up to the catcher as the Reds waste a nice opportunity.

    2-2 after 2 1/2.

    Denorfia grounds out.
Hudson lines to left for the second out.
Hawpe grounds up the middle to reach first.
Headly grounds to Renteria to force Hawpe at second.

    2-2 after 3.

Juan "Bomb" Francisco leading off the fourth for Cincinnati. He hits the ball hard to Hudson for the first out.
Cairo singles down the left-field line.
Miller skies to Maybin in center. Two down.
Bailey whiffs to end the Reds' half of the fourth.

    2-2 after 3 1/2.

    Re: 03/23 Wednesday Reds/Padres

Brantley notes that Bailey is throwing the ball well since the first. Gameday has hit fastball sitting at 92-93.

    Maybin grounds to third.
Nick Hundley doubles off the wall.
Frandsen singles to right to score Hundley. 3-2 Pads.
Stauffer sacrifices Frandsen into scoring position.
Venable can't catch up to a Bailey fastball for strike three.

    Bailey's line: 4 IP 7H 3R 0BB 4K.

End of 4. 3-2 San Diego.

Phillips leading off for the third time in the game. Check swing bouncer to first. One away.
(If it was an open competition, Renteria outplayed Janish this spring).
    Renteria takes a called third.
    Hermida bounces to first.

A quick half-inning for the Reds. Halfway home Padres lead 3-2.

    Denorfia grounds out to third.
Hudson with another infield hit to short. Hudson tries to steal second but is gunned down by Corky. Two down.
Bailey gets ahead 0-2 and then walks Hawpe.
Headley flies to Heisey in left and five innings are in the book. 3-2 Friars.

    Stauffer cruising.

Middle of the sixth. 3-2 SD.

    Re: 03/23 Wednesday Reds/Padres

Bailey allows a leadoff single to Maybin and that will be all for Homer on the day.
Dontrelle Willis comes on with a runner on first and nobody out.
Willis tries to pickoff Maybin and fires it into the stands. Maybin scoots along to third.
    Hundley strikes out.
Frandsen walks. Runners on the corners.
Salazar walks to load them up.
(Willis has now walked 7 in 9 2/3 innings this spring. He can't make the team pitching like this).
Wild pitch now brings in a run. 4-2 Padres. (Where you throwin' that ball, Willis)?
Venable now triples hard into the right-field corner to bring home two more. 6-2 San Diego.
    I hope Dontrelle likes Louisville.
Single to left makes it 7-2. (I am pretty certain Dusty is gonna say Dontrelle was throwing the ball well though).
Willis walks Hudson. Runners on first and second.
Guzman singles to make it 8-2. Runners on first and third.

Willis pitches 1/3 of an inning. He gives up 3 hits, walks 3, throws a wild pitch and sends a pickoff throw up into the stands. His ERA is now up over 9 and he is responsible for one more runner.

Lecure on. First batter bounces one through the left side. 9-2.
Lecure records the second out, getting Phillips to fly out.
Fourth walk of the inning loads things up.
Sappelt hauls in a lazy flyball to end the sixth. UGLY!!

Whoa! Reds put on their hitting shoes in the 7th.

A two-run bomb by Devin (Stud) Mesoraco.
    Lewis doubles in two.
Sappelt doubles in Lewis. Sappelt goes 1 for 2 and his average drops.

Reds plate five to tighten things up considerably. 9-7 Reds trail.
