There could be a few reasons for the Francisco in right field experiment:

1) They are considering him for the opening day roster in the spot that Fred Lewis would currently seem to be in line for. I have a tough time believing they will eat the $900,000 that they owe Lewis. That has not been mentioned much but it will be a factor.

2) Dusty wants to see first hand what Francisco looks like out there for future reference and it would factor into a decision after the season is underway when a need arises when Francisco might be a possible call-up.

3) They are showcasing him for a possible trade, trying to increase his value by showing more versatility.

I would vote for number two as the most likely of the three.
