    MLB announce 7-day disabled list

MLB announces 7 day DL for concussions, as part of new protocol

This was rumored to happen during the off-season. The minor leagues only use a seven-day disabled list, so it's nothing totally new to baseball.

I like this. This would have eliminated a lot of the lost sleep last summer during Votto's strained neck.

Is it just for concussions? If so, I expect concussions to rise dramatically this season.

Yeah, I'm seeing this is just for concussions.

I think an actual 7-day DL would open way too many opportunities for gaming the system.

They already do that all the time with the minor league teams. More with "phantom" DL though.

Oh, I see. Hadn't noticed that.

Sweet, less use of options. Good for a young team like us.

I think you could make the argument that this is bad for the player that is actually concussed. Giving them another 8 days off is not such a bad thing. 7 days off with a concussion may be rushing it a little bit.

I think the argument is that teams weren't DL'ing their concussed players because 15 days was too long. So they wouldn't get the proper rest.

What about strains and sprains or illnesses? You can't use the 7-day DL if anyone of those injuries happen?
