And I'm too tired to look up supporting facts, but I believe Olney tweeted today tht Tulo is his MVP right now.

You can't argue with some of these fans Homer.

Jay Bruce will never be able to produce enough to satisfy his detractors.

I'm fine with him hitting 5th.

    Stubbs
    Phillips
    Votto
    Rolen
    Bruce
    Heisey/Lewis
    Hernanigan
    Janish

I'm personally fine with the lineup now. I think Rolen is the one guy who can do well with no protection behind him (aside from Votto, but we're trying to maximize his production with him being the focal point.) I like...

    Stubbs
    Heisey/Lewis
    Votto
    Phillips
    Bruce
    Rolen

Although I also like Bruce in the 2 hole...

    Stubbs
    Bruce
    Votto
    Phillips
    Rolen

Although I don't think Dusty like the LL followed by extreme R.
    Although, keeping
Domo Arigato, Here Comes Joey Votto

And lower than Ryan Roberts, Gaby Sanchez, Seth Smith and Reds44's BFF, ol' Neck Tats himself, Yadier.

Sorry, it had to be said. It is early. Jay is on a nice run but he has been fairly streaky so far. Hopefully he can be more consistent.

And all those players are having great seasons.

I think without swerving off into supplementing arguments, the point is Jay Bruce is having a good season. Could he get better or spread his production out in a "prettier" fashion, sure. But don't lose sight of the fact that he is having a good year so far.

I ask this question, does he have a shot at being an All-Star? What does he need to do between now and that 2nd weekend in July to be an All-Star? Would love to see it.

He is absolutely having a good season. But I thought the name dropping was ironic.

Re: So when is Bruce going to start hitting?

Was reading this thread and, for the heck of it, I decided to compare Jay to other RF's on fangraphs.

OK, here's a problem I have with WAR. Jay is a 1.2 and Choo is 1.6.

    C'mon, seriously?

    Choo: .250/.332/.393/.724 (5 HR, 22 RBI)
    Bruce: .271/.341/.512/.853 (11 HR, 27 RBI)

So Choo is that much better in RF? I've read on here that UZR can only really measured accurately over a long time period (say 3 years). So it seems to me that UZR kind of messes up WAR when looking at it within a season. Am I missing something here?

He's started hitting. So let it go. He hit .230 in April.

That is why scouts and "eyes" are still a great way to evaluate talent and likely always will be. Not trying to dismiss the value of stats such as WAR and UZR and what not, but they have their faults just like scouts to.

Someone knowledgeable about the advanced statistics, but smart enough to be able to evaluate players with their "eyes" is really the type of person I want evaluating talent.

Bruce is coming around and coming around fast.
"Today was the byproduct of us thinking we can come back from anything." - Joey Votto after blowing a 10-1 lead and holding on for the 12-11 win on 8/25/2010.

Yes 100 times. Just like any other stat or metric, WAR has flaws and needs to be looked at carefully.
