Very nice photos. I strongly recommend them to those RZ'ers too young to have seen Pete play.

    Great photos

Pete's best shot for the Hall was right away, as he was a sportswriter's delight, and those guys back in the day adored Rose.

The modern guys only know the stats (which do not improve with time) and a man with major failings who broke the one rule that is posted in every clubhouse. Plus, they don't get to vote on him anyway.

I feel strongly that Rose does belong in the Hall, but I won't sweat it one way or another. I think the Veterans will vote him in posthumously, and it will probably be the work of Pete's old friend/nemesis/friend Johnny Bench who clinches it for Pete. Bench is some 6-7 years younger than Rose.

The whole Pete Rose story just tires me, aggravates me, depresses me at this point. The guy was on top of the world, and threw away his life. I've vowed since then to never to allow athletes serve as role models or heroes for me, for what they do ON the field.

Hal McCoy was on Sunday Morning Sportstalk with Ken Broo this AM. Hal McCoy was shown a letter, by Bud Selig, that Bart Giamatti was writing to Selig's daughter at the time of his death. Selig blames Rose for the death of Giamatti.
The Sox traded Bullfrog the only player they've got for Shottenhoffen. Four-eyes Shottenhoffen a utility infielder. They've got a whole team of utility infielders.

I'm pretty sure the real blame lies in his heavy and habitual tobacco use.

If it wasn't Pete it would have been something else that was stressing him.

His body was a condemned building, Pete was just a strong wind in the never ending weather system of MLB bureaucracy.

Bob Boone probably blames Pete Rose too but, as always, I blame Bob Boone.

....and his waistline, and the fact he was never seen without a drink in his hand, etc.

Yes, but isn't it more fun to think of Pete Rose sitting on a grassy knoll outside the Commissioner's office, secretly sending Giamatti cartons of smokes, bottles of scotch, and bacon sandwiches?

Seriously, Giamatti had been around baseball before becoming Commissioner. I'm sure he had heard rumors of Pete's behavior before even getting into the office. Heck, he suspended Rose for 30 days for bumping Dave Pallone while he was NL President. To suggest that dealing with Rose's gambling allegations somehow caused such stress and heartbreak that Giamatti died because of it is just trying to push blame on someone for something he had no control over.
Burn down the disco. Hang the blessed DJ. Because the music that he constantly plays, it says nothing to me about my life.
