From rolling stone... While we wait for an official statement about Clarence Clemons' condition following his stroke, good news has been trickling in. A "close friend" of the E Street Band saxophonist recently told the Springsteen fanzine Backstreets that things that his condition is improving. "Yesterday, it did not look good at all," the source said. "Today . . . miracles are happening. His vital signs are improving. He's responsive. His eyes are welling up when we're talking to him. He was paralyzed on his left side, but now he's squeezing with his left hand. This is the best news we've heard since [the stroke] happened — it's nothing short of miraculous. The next five days will still be critical. But he's a fighter."

I've long been convinced the solo in Jungleand is just about the most powerfully moving couple of minutes of music there is or at least for me.

    Thanks for posting that, klw.

I can't believe I never knew Clemons was born in Norfolk, VA - same as me.

Bruce has come out with a statement saying that he is "improving' but will require "much care and support".

Fans can send their wishes to Clemons by email, at notestoclarence@clarenceclemons.com.

Clarence Clemons — the Big Man with the big horn — died today of complications from a stroke he suffered last weekend, said a source close to Bruce Springsteen. He was 69 years old.

At least he didn't suffer for long.

I wonder how many bands of the 78s and 79s will come forward and admit they were inspired by his playing to include a sax in their music.
