Cueto and Bailey to make rehab starts at Louisville on April 16th and 17th

    From Mark Sheldon:

*Johnny Cueto will start a rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville on April 16, assuming his two innings in Goodyear on Monday go without incident.

*Homer Bailey, slated to throw Tuesday in Goodyear, will have a tentative start on April 17 for Louisville assuming all goes well for him as well. More on both guys later on Reds.com.

Sheldon also says Jose Arredondo will start a rehab assignment next week.

    More from John Fay:

Cueto will throw two innings tomorrow at Goodyear. He’s then scheduled to throw for Louisville April 16, 21 and 26.

“After that, we’ll see,” Baker said. “It kind of depends per appearance how deep he goes, how he looks, if he feels anything. That’s getting way out ahead of yourself. But you have to do it.”

Bailey will throw three innings Tuesday at Goodyear. He’s then scheduled to throw for Louisville April 17 and 22. He’ll throw again on April 27 but it could be for the Reds or Louisville.

Let's see, Bailey goes the 22nd, Cueto goes the 26th, and Louisville comes to town to play the Mud Hens on the 23rd-25th. Great timing!

Lecure is the logical choice to take out of the rotation but which other starter do you take out for Cueto and Bailey?

I would send Maloney to AAA and put Leake in the pen as the long man. Obviously someone else would have to be sent to Louisville to open up the roster spot and that is a really tough call. This is a very enjoyable problem to have.

I think it depends on how Volquez looks in his next couple of starts. If he pitches poorly tonight and in his next start you have to look at sending him down to get his game back.

Maloney and Leake to AAA. LeCure to the pen.

All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

This is the way I'd lean too. But, and this is a big "but", if Edinson is still struggling....I might consider keeping Mike and getting Edinson some time to straighten things out.

    From John Fay:

    Bailey's line: 3 ip, 4 hits, 1 run, 0 walks, 5 Ks. 37 pitches. #reds

    http://twitter.com/johnfayman

Cueto also pitched two innings yesterday without any problems.

If everything goes well, Huntington Park here in Columbus will get to see both on their starts slated for the 21st and 22nd as the Bats play the Clippers

Wouldn't be surprised if one of them was out until at least the all-star break.
