    Re: Question about Dayton defense.

Pitching has been outstanding. Weakness of the team has been the defense, particularly in the outfield. Sierra is their best defensive outfielder. Yorman has been very poor defensively for the most part (very tentative going after fly balls, letting balls fall in front of him that should be caught with a little hustle). Vidal is a very good defensive third baseman. Barnhart throws well. We have talked about Hamilton. Tremendous athleticism, makes some plays that almost no one will make. But has eight errors. Hands look a little suspect. Some project him more as a second baseman, some say he can play short. Too early to say for sure.

On the mound, the whole staff has been unbelievable. Josh Smith has been the best. But there has been no weak link since P. Martinez was sent down. Tuttle looks very, very promising. Howell, Hayes, they all look very good. Rogers has, at times, looked dominant. Renken struck out 10 tonight in six innings.

Not sure how many people saw the game on TV tonight but we are starting to see Yorman's offensive potential for the first time this season. He ran the bases well tonight, showed some things we had not seen yet.

Thanks, 72. Sounds like the pitching has been every bit as good as the results, if not better. Smith, Renken, Rogers, Hayes and, to some extent, Tuttle, have all been extremely pleasant surprises. And nice to hear about Vidal's defensive prowess, although the report on Yorman's defense is a bit disappointing.

Mesoraco is 2-for-2 with a walk in game two. He's now hitting .310 with a .975 OPS in roughly 70 PA's.

Mesoraco just drew a nine pitch walk. He's 2-for-2 with two walks. Bats are up 11-3 and have the bases loaded with no outs.
