Every team goes through a stretch where no one is hitting. It happened to the Phillies last year. They had some ridiculous streak of innings where they didn't get a single run. I wouldn't call the Phillies a bad offensive team, they just went through a funk. 162 games, folks, 162 games...

Abad in the game for the 'Stros to pitch. Astros are trying hard to find a pitcher the Reds can hit.

Didn't he do well against the Reds in their last series?

Ah here we go- it looks like 1 2/3 scoreless.

Bruce K's and the Astros say enough is enough for Abad. Lets see if the Reds can hit some guy named Melancon.

Do the Astros think tomorrow is still an off day? They are going through their bullpen today.

Actually I hope they do think tomorrow is an off day. Maybe the Reds could win one by forfeit if they don't show up.

Yes, this is a very peculiar strategy, especially given the circumstances.

Not at all. The Astros starter, Aneury (Cy) Rodriguez hadn't started previously this year. So he only pitched five innings.

So the Stros had to use their pen to get through this game.

Tomorrow they have a good starter going, so the Stros figure they won't need too much bullpen.

Stros are going for the jugular against an opponent playing poorly.

Reds out in order for the 4th time today.

I have to start my journey home for the day. Someone in RZ hit 3 run homer for me and win this thing.

Re: 5/4/11 - Astros at Reds

The strategy to try and play matchups when the Reds are showing no signs of life (often with no Reds on base) is more what I was referring to. Why not let Abad pitch to a non-power hitter in Hanigan with nobody on base rather than switch to Melancon?
