Bakersfield continues to pound the ball. They're up 6-0 after 2 and a half, with 9 hits in their 3 innings.

good to see Frazier, Cozart, Yorman & Duran all starting to heat up a bit.

With the way Janish is going this season, in addition to the improvements he's shown the last couple of seasons on the big league club, I have my doubts if Janish ever gets a shot w/ the big league club barring injury (or potentially Janish getting moved in a deal for Reyes or some other big name SS for the next year or two w/ Cozart being the backup and potentialy the starter once the big name trade guy moves on) If Cozart can get his bat in order by the middle of June, he'd make a solid trade piece.

It would have been nice to see Frazier get the call when Rolen went down, but his numbers at the time didn't justify it one bit. Of course, I would have like to see Juan get a long look there as well, but since he's injuried that can't happen. Similar to Cozart, he could make another nice piece to a trade if he continues to heat up.

    mace, from a game report...

After Montgomery (13-15) tied the game against Travis Webb (L, 0-4) in the second, the Mudcats pushed ahead again when Denis Phipps stole home on the back end of a botched rundown between first and second. Quintin Berry, who started the play at first base, broke for second when Archer faked a throw to third base, but Berry remained in a rundown long enough to allow Phipps to score. Meanwhile, Berry managed to escape any tag whatsoever when the Biscuits failed to have a defender cover first base.

Well, then . . . the real story is that the fake-throw-to-third-and-quick-throw-to-first trick actually worked. And then didn't. It's pretty funny that they picked the guy off on a play that nobody falls for, neglected to get him out, and let a run score. Thanks, mud.
