    Need another Hitter

This team has so much potential to wreck havoc in the National League but they really need another Right Handed Power Hitter to Bat Behind Votto... He is getting walked everyday and Phillips besides his speed has a knack for grounding into Double Plays... 2-3 games in a row now, and that isn't even keeping count.

Also, Chris Vailaika is hitting .182 and just not a major league everyday ballplayer.

I understand Scott Rolen will be back soon to play 3rd base but his Injuries are mounting and 120 Games out of your Starting Third Baseman (A Power Position) is unacceptable.

Sure this team needs a Lead Off Hitter and I think that alone would be enough to energize this lineup... The opposing team will not want to walk Votto so much with Reyes on base... (Putting 2 runners on) but even then Phillips isn't a hitter that needs to be a 4 Hole Clean Up Hitter... He would be perfect behind Bruce in the 6th spot in the Lineup making the Offense that much Better.

It's sad to see this team is 2 or 3 players away from just Down Right Being Nasty & the Front Office/Ownership doesn't try to improve even one area.

Did nothing in the off-season to improve the team
Standing pat with a team that won the division in the last wek of the season is a dangerous thing

I will add since Dusty seems to get the blame whenever we do not win, the lack of off-season add ons can not be blamed on him, no matter how much the Anti Bakers try to spin it.

Today was a bummer, but when you only get 5 hits, you are gonna walk the tightrope every day. Cordero has been great all year, I suppose the Cordero bashing will now resume?

Yeah they've been having to come back against the bullpens the last few games and it's worrisome.

Reyes is obviously on the Market and All of Baseball agrees the Reds farm system is one of the best so find some positions of depth that fit and make a few deals!

    Re: Need another Hitter

    IF.......money were no issue.

I'd trade with the Mets and pick up Beltran (switch hitter) and Reyes. But money is a huge issue with this small market club. Both would be rent-a-players, and hopefully the Mets would take that into consideration with the trade. It would be an unloading of payroll for them, roughly $30M.

We have untouchables such as Mesoraco and Sappelt.

Mets have needs. Their starting rotation, other than Chris Young (1.88 e.r.a) sucks. They need a CFer bad (Heisey?). They will need another LFer to replace Beltran. And they'd need a SS to replace Reyes.

They'd have to send us some ca$h to offset our increase in payroll.

So the Reds would have to probably give up.....

SP - Volquez or Wood or Leake or Bailey or Cueto, etc........possibly throw in Maloney or LeCure
SS - Cozart or Valaika? or Janish?
    CF - Heisey

I think that would get it done.

What it does for the Reds:

    SS - Reyes
    2B - Phillips
    1B - Votto
    LF - Beltran
    3B - Rolen
    RF - Bruce
    CF - Stubbs
    C - Hernanigan

It ends the Gomes in LF experiment. It ends the "play Heisey" arguers. It moves Rolen out of the cleanup spot........you could even bat him 6th and move Bruce up if he gets hot. It solves the leadoff spot. It solves alot of problems.

It does weaken our rotation, but ends the controversy of having 6 legit starters.

Mets get a pretty good haul adding a good young starting pitcher, good young starting CFer, a decent SS prospect (Cozart, Janish, or Valaika) and relieve a ton of payroll, but they'd have to send us some ca$h to offset it or maybe they'd have to take on Cordero's contract for the rest of the season. We make Ondrusek the closer.

I dont think the team would have to give up any of the 4 startes you mentioned... Leake possibly but his latest outings would suggest otherwise.

I think if a Team Took Beltran and Reyes, the Mets would throw in some payroll and would only take Minor League Prospects...

Remember... Contending teams dont usually trade away pieces to their playoff puzzle... They Trade away prospects.

Last time Impact players got traded for each other in Big Deals was Alfonso Soriano to Texas for Alex Rodriguez...

If we add two quality bats we have a legit shot at winning the whole thing this year. The rest of the pieces are in place. I hate to waste an opportunity to win it all, because we are hanging onto prospects.

I agree, we need to take a shot and try our best to win a ring while we have it, being a small market club we don't get these chances very often...BUT,

even if we make a deal like this...

If its Game 7 of the World Series and we have a 5-4 lead over the Yankees I DO NOT TRUST COCO CORDERO TO WIN US THE GAME!

I'd like to have that nervous tension to be leading the Yanks in the 7th game of the series
I may buy me some Chewing Sticks, they seem to keep Dusty more calm than the rest of us
Dusty and Arroyo are the two coolest dudes around, I need to be more like them

I agree. The window of opportunity looks to be this year and the following 2 years while Votto is under contract.

This team needs to seize the opportunity now...

I think Beltran would rake at GAB... Too much pressure in NY.

Reyes at Lead off would set the table and they rest would be history... The Reds could go with their current pitching if they swung this trade.

Even the Guys in the ORG don't think it would take the Kitchen Sink to land Reyes... and if you're taking Beltran... The Deal gets Sweeter.

    Re: Need another Hitter

Then trade Cordero to the White Sox (in need of a closer) as a payroll dump ($12M). Make Ondrusek the Closer or do Closer by committee (the hot hand).

Then make the trade with the Mets for Beltran ($20M) and Reyes ($11M).

That's +$31M minus $12M (Cordero) = +$19M. Then see if the Mets are willing to throw some ca$h in the deal.

I have been posting about trading Cordero to the White Sox for the last month and nobody has paid attention. I am glad you brought this up.

The White Sox are in Desperate Need of a Closer and Kenny Williams is able to take on Salaries!

Glad you brought this up Vottomatic.

Wouldn't it be awesome to geyt a lefty like Chris Sale back as an even swap... The Reds get their lefty specialist!

He hit three home runs against Colorado on Thursday and in his last 12 games has five homers, five doubles and 14 RBIs.
    Yeah. He sucks.

Reds need this guy to hit behind Votto.
