Mudcats are shutout by the Barons 4-0. The Mudcats only managed three hits.

Righty Dallas Buck gets the rubber match of this five game series in Birmingham on Friday night.

Bakersfield leads 10-2 in the fifth. Stephen Hunt, back in the lineup after being out of it the last two days, is 1 for 1, a single, with 3 RBIs. (He was HBP with the bases loaded.) Now batting .508. Campbell (.410) is 2 for 2. Grandal is the same with a 2B. Brodie Greene, leading off, is 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs and now hitting .336. Sulbaran went four innings.

Who goes? The logical choice would be Fred Lewis.

Campbell hit a HR in the 8th to make it an 11-4 lead.

If and when Alonso gets called up to play LF then I would let Gomes go.
Heisey stays as the 4th outfielder, late inning defender in left & occasional starter vs left handed pitching.
Lewis stays as LH bench bat.

Lewis is fine. I wouldn't shed a tear if Gomes went bye bye, but he makes sense to keep if Alonso struggles against lefties.

I don't get this line of thinking. Why Alonso? We need what positions covered? LF & 3B, right? Send Chris Valaika back down and bring up Frazier instead. Problem solved.

Is there anybody on the Bats' roster who's hotter than Todd?

    Yonder: .322/.378/.534/.912 Last 10 games ops 1.097
    Todd: .283/.361/.575/.936 Last 10 games ops 1.286

    Yonder's experience:
    LF-50 games
    1B-178 games

    Todd's experience:
    1B-54 games
    2B-37 games
    SS-112 games
    3B-80 games
    LF-167 games

Which guy looks to help us more NOW? I certainly don't see a need for a back up at 1st. 3rd however.
He's also a better defender at each position than Yonder (except 1st).

Frazier's window may have passed with Francisco, Rolen, and Janish coming off their injuries; however, if another SS or 3B gets injured this season, i'd much rather see Frazier up than Francisco.

Alonso is better at baseball than Frazier, that's why.

At which part of baseball? Swinging the bat? Playing defense? Running the bases? Throwing the ball at distance with velocity?

I'd give you "swinging the bat", but it's not the clear cut win you'd think. As for the other categories...I think he's considerably behind Frazier in them all.

Todd scuffled after the promotion to AAA, but (per the BA article OBM linked) in the second half last year he was considerably better (.854 ops) and this year (.936 ops) he's doing as well as Alonso (.912 ops....last year .820 ops).
