"You only have to bat a thousand in two things; flying and heart transplants. Everything else you can go 4-for-5."
-Beano Cook
I hold malice in my heart for these Cardinals.
The Reds truly deserved this win tonight. The Reds grinded out great at bats throughout the game and worked every pitcher the Cardinals had.
This was a well deserved comeback win.
This is the time. The real Reds organization is back.
Great win.
I keep seeing Joey have this moments this year, such as his hug with Dusty after the game, when I say to myself, "I hope Joey is falling in love with this team and this town, and goes to ownership to sign a real LTC that is both player and team friendly".
I can dream right?
That game was fun to watch. It had something of a playoff atmosphere at times. Votto is the best player to wear this uniform in a long, long time.
I was away and wasn't able to comment earlier on the forum. What I don't understand about the whole thing is why Votto was pitched to in that scenario. It was two outs and a hit would have won the game anyway. Why not load the bases and deal with a less dangerous hitter in Phillips. I understand the issue that a wild pitch would win the game but considering Motte is a primarily fast ball pitcher, this would have been an unlikely scenario. This game showed why Pettini is a bench coach. I never would have thought to say this but I wish TLR was back.
Anyway, good games Reds fans. I truely hope most of the games are of this epic quality all year long.

I got to see this game from bottom of 7th on, tuned in just in time to see Molina hit into the DP in the top of the 7th, which was really probably the biggest missed opportunity that left the door open for the comeback.
I kept on saying, win or lose, this was a great game. Even greater that they pulled it out, with Votto doing what your star is supposed to do.
Massett gets star of the game for me. Two innings of shutdown, nasty stuff, confident enough to unintentionally intentionally walk Pujols and pitch to the hottest hitter on the planet in Holliday restored some hope in me that he will be the backend bullpen guy we need him to be this season.
Now, if Chapman can get back to his nastiness, we can start really making some noise in this race.
"Rounding 3rd and heading for home, good night everybody"
I thought about that too. Managers rarely walk a guy where 3B is the open base but as a Reds fan I loved the Mott-Votto matchup.
I also love being in a close game with your Cardinals when it's bullpen vs bullpen. I like my chances. What I fear is that they will pickup a closer or other worthy BP arm and change that. BP arms are generally plentiful around the trade deadline
I think the issue is that the Cards have too many old guys in the bullpen. I love what our young arms have done. Sanchez has certainly been a revelation. However, at 22 and being the first time in the majors, he is going to have some hickups like he did last night. I just do not think the Cardinals will be effective if they have guys like Bautista in the mix. The good thing, from the Cardinals standpoint, is that there are some injured guys coming back. Brian Tallet, our other left handed specialist will be coming back soon from a broken hand. This will be a boon for the bullpen.
