You have the NL MVP on your team, and you bat the worst hitter in your lineup right in front of him. Well played Dusty! And we've seen this mistake made consistently lately. Just because the Cubs gave us a couple of games doesn't mean it was a good lineup.

(This message brought to you by the campaign to remove Paul Janish from the two-hole.)

“You want more production out of every spot,” Baker said. “Until we move Scott back to the fourth slot and Brandon up to two, it’s going to be a situation where we’re hitting-and-running with that spot and bunting with that spot. That’s a spot — especially when your leadoff man’s getting on — that you can carry.
“What you hate to do is put that person at the bottom of the order. Then you don’t get much production or turnover at the bottom in order to get to the top. You try to space your lineup with guys who are productive, with guys who are on the way to being productive, so that a pitcher doesn’t have an easy way at seven, eight, nine.”
Baker planned to make the move with Rolen few days ago. But the Reds had won five straight and scored 6, 7, 9, 7 and 7 in the five games.
“I talked to (Rolen) and he said things are fine the way they are. Leave it that way,” Baker said. “You do that sometimes, too. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
Not saying I agree with it...but it's hard to argue with the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" argument. For now.

What faulty logic out of Dusty. You bat someone in the two-hole because of their ability to bunt? Uh, might want to try having someone with a decent on-base percentage bat in front of the freakin' league MVP. It would be nice to have a man on base when Votto is up.

Not killing the messenger, Sir Charles. I actually appreciate you posting that.

With that logic, shouldn't you just run the pitcher out there in the 2 hole?

Seriously. What a weak argument on trying to defend putting Janish in the two hole.

No problem Blitz. I think it's all about not wanting to change things while on a winning streak. Players (and managers) are VERY superstitious.

    Bronson walks Walker.

Both AB's, Bronson dealt with Walker VERY cautiously.

3 down after a deep drive to Stubbs...but he runs it down. 3-0 Pirates heading to the bottom of the 4th.

I'll be back in a bit...hopefully somebody can fill in on pbp for a bit.

A 3-0 hole against Morton feels like a 6-0 hole. They needed to do damage in the first and didn't. And there are no Cubs fielders tonight to play circus ball.
