    Tuesday 5/24/11 Minor-League Updates

The Bats loaded the bases (singles by Mesoraco, Hermida, Valaika) with no outs in the second, but failed to score against Jason Berken (down from Baltimore). Dorn and Griffin fanned, Negron grounded out. It's 0-0.

    David Johnson pitching for Louisville.

In the third, Cozart was gunned out trying for a double, and Francisco wasn't. Still, no runs. Bats trail 2-0.

Louisville just tied it, 5-5, with five runs in the sixth, capped by a two-out, three-run HR by Negron, of all people.

Lehr gives up three straight hits and the Bats now trail 5-6 heading to the 8th.

Lehr gives up a HR in the bottem of the 8th, but not before Cozarts 3 run HR in the top. Heading into the 9th Bats lead 8-7.

And that's the final. Gil with the save (0 H, 2 K). Cozart had three hits. Everybody but Alonso (0 for 5) had at least one.

So how long before Cozart gets a solid look in Cincy? He is swinging a very hot bat and could fit well in the 2 hole ahead of Votto...

I agree, he would look good there. I don't want Janish in the 2 hole if he's going to just bunt Stubbs half the time.

That said, the Reds already have 2 SS on the 25 man, and Frazier can handle the position as well. If Cozart can get his average over .300 though, we'll have to consider calling him up. He certainly has paid his dues in the minors, and his power and defense are probably a slight uptick over Renteria. He and Janish would make good partners if we can make room for him.

I guess once they decided not to go after Reyes/Furcal/Rollins.

The Mudcats were shooting for their first series win of the year in the rubber game with Chattanooga tonight. A promising start has given way to an 8-3 lead by Chattanooga in the seventh inning.

Daniel Tuttle had a six-inning, scoreless start tonight for Dayton, and the Dragons broke out for six runs in the seventh to go up 6-0. That's where it stands after eight, following two strong innings from Blaine Howell. Barnhart is 2 for 2. Duran and Hamilton had RBI doubles.

Little update on Jeffords. They were going to send him to Bakersfield and he then asked for his release.
