I will say this, just above every moved Walt made in the offseason (Chapman a reliever, no real replacements in LF or SS) have backfried.
Extending of Bruce, Cueto, Votto. Not extending Volquez beyond what he thought he was worth. Keeping Ramon.

4 out of the 5 moves were excellent. We didn't extend Votto beyond 2013 which IMO was a major mistake in not getting 1-2 years of FA under his control. This probably tightens the window for the club to 2011-2013 from 2011-2015 and so far 2011 (after the 5-0 start) has been a pretty big dissappointment.

The Bruce move managed to buy two more years of service and at least we got one more with Cueto into 2014.

It didn't sound like more than 3 years with Votto was an option.

Walt is the LVP (least valuable player) this year for his awful stand-pat offseason. It was painfully obvious that another year with Johnny Gomes as your LF and no true No. 1 starter was going to haunt them - and it has. Walt has sat on these prospects for far too long. It's time to flip some for real help.

I just flipped through about 10 pages of your posts. Honestly, when was the last time you made an even somewhat positive comment?

Agree, I'm certain they tried because it was so crucial to have him locked up into 2014 and 2015 to extend the window for the current young core. With an MVP in hand that ship had unfortunately sailed.

My comment wasn't specific to that post in particular. It was in response to someone that literally every single post is complaining about something. I understand RZ is a place to vent, but it gets beyond tiresome to hear someone only point out the negatives on a team that isn't bad (it happened last year as well).

In the FWIW department, many of the projection systems has us in the 84-86 win range. My take is that every season has its ups and downs. Clearly we're deep in a down right now, but the talent usually shines through. Nobody is seriously injured (that we know of) and its a long, long season. This team is something between mediocre and great and I would love to see WJ turn some minor league talent in to major league talent.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

They're not bad, but they're not nearly as good as some around here think. SS and LF were bound to be black holes, yet they weren't addressed. Everyone talked about the depth of the rotation, but they're young pitchers. Young pitchers are the most unrelied upon group of individuals in professional sports.

This team has major problems. I'm not saying the season is over, but as constituted, this is the third best team in the division, and it isn't particularly close. I don't know how anyone can look at the rotation and say for certain "It will get better." I don't see it. It is what it is, which is a major problem.

Friday Leak vs. Hanson (2.72 ERA)
Saturday Arroyo vs. Lowe (3.53 ERA)
Sunday Cueto vs. Jurrjens (1.56 ERA)

I would trade our rotation for the rotation of any other team in the NL, with perhaps the exception of Nats, Pirates and Dbacks (and not so sure about those).

Starting pitching. Wish we had more/better.

    Wow. Really?

Cueto, Bailey, Arroyo, Wood and take your pick of Volquez, Leake, LeCure.

Cueto & Bailey are both very solid. Arroyo's going to give you what he always gives you. His numbers are skewed because he's already had his yearly blowout outing and it's early. Wood has been much better than his numbers indicate. That's 4 solid starters and a 5th starter of varying options all with considerable upside.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but there aren't many rotations I WOULD trade ours for.

Haha, I do..... but it was a trend I had been noticing for quite some time. A five minute search confirmed my beliefs.
