This is something the NCAA should be going after, leaving it to each conference won't work.

"In my opinion, it would really affect the quality in our league," Saban said.

Saban says it, but anyone else who does is a whiny baby who is jealous of the SEC's success.

The reason they don't go after it is because the National Letter of Intent program is not an NCAA mandate. The NLOI program is governed by an independent organization (the Collegiate Commissioners Association) that is overseen by the conferences themselves. That's why the NCAA doesn't get involved, because technically speaking, they don't directly endorse letters of intent. They do endorse the operations, but the program itself is considered voluntary.

Of course, the NCAA could take a hold of the LOI program itself, but they'd have to step on the toes of the schools themselves to do so.

Yeah, what jumped out at me from the article was Saban's comment about how not having oversigning would affect the quality of the league. It's basically an admission that the SEC doing it and not the other conferences does make a big difference.
