    Crucial Homestand Coming Up

The team gets to come home to try to get well on a nine-game homestand now and a look ahead at the schedule suggests they better heal in a hurry. Because after that things look rough until the All-Star Game.

    Reds nine-game homestand includes:

Milwaukee (3) - A hot team which the Reds have handled pretty easily in recent times. That trend needs to continue.
LA Dodgers (3) - A rough season for this ballclub. Need to kick them while they are down. Maybe Ethier and/or Kemp seek asylum in Cincy.
Chicago Cubs (3) - Cubs like to give games away. Reds need to take them.

I would say a 6-3 homestand or better is needed because after that comes a stretch of games in which the Reds traditionally have not fared well.

A six-game roadie to the West Coast follows that home cooking.
The Reds will play the Giants and the Dodgers. History never repeats except for the Reds out West. This will need to change.

A 15-game interleague stretch is up next. Once again, an area in which the Reds usually have trouble. This includes 3 game sets against New York, Tampa and Cleveland. All strong teams. Toronto comes to GAPB and Jose Bautista is licking his chops. Baltimore is the final opponent in this run.

The scheduling gauntlet winds up with a six-game roadie to visit the Reds two top rivals in the Central - St. Louis and Milwaukee. And those two are not likely to be accomodating hosts.

The Reds are five games back at the moment and I don't think they can survive a rough month of June. It may be a marathon but it's time to get out those running shoes.

    Re: Crucial Homestand Coming Up

Monday the Reds send Wood out against Narveson. Narveson is a lefty so the Reds should feast. Game one: Reds 9 Brewers 4.

Tuesday isn't looking so good. Zach Greinke takes the ball for the Brewboys while the Reds counter with, possibly, minor leaguer Chad Reineke. Greinke's ERA is an ugly 5.79. But in 28 IP he has struck out 39 and walked just 3. Game two. Milwaukee 6 Reds 2.

Wednesday is the rubber game. Reds send out Mike Leake against Milwaukee's best Shaun Marcum. Leake is on his game and the Reds' bullpen seals the deal in a 3-1 victory.

Two out of three would be good work considering Greinke and Marcum are both gonna go in this series.

6 wins at the least to get the ship headed in right direction
If homestand is a dud, look for Gomes, Renteria to be DFA

If they bomb this homestand, I see changes a-coming.
