    Reds vs Brewers 5/31/11

    Stubbs 8
    Phillips 4
    Votto 3
    Bruce 9
    Rolen 5
    Gomes 7
    Edgar 6
    Ramon 2
    Reineke 1

    Observations

    1) Bruce is hitting 4th, answering many prayers here.

    2) Gomes starting his 2nd game in a row, is this the Rise of Jonny or just because he has actually hit Greinke fairly well with 2 HRs and a double in 9 ABs?

    3) Greinke throws strikes, with a 39/3 K/BB ratio this year. Not a typo.

    4) Joey also has 2 bombs off Greinke in 4 ABs.

    Play ball.

Edgar ahead of Ramon doesn't seem justifiable, but I'm sure its Dustifiable. But if my only qualm is about swapping the 7th and 8th hitters, then I guess I can't complain much. Looks like he wants his best offensive lineup out there against Greinke, but one of his worst defensive alignments (Gomes/Renteria) for a pitcher that doesn't really strike anyone out (Reineke). Dusty's in a tough spot with this game anyways, so if the Reds lose this game, I certainly won't be able to blame it ont he lineup.

So it took JB's month of May to convince Dusty that hitting LHs back to back against a RH hurler isn't such a bad thing?

Well, I'm glad Dusty is playing his best offensive lineup, because I think it's a given that Reinike is going to be hit hard. I kind of doubt the difference between Janish and Renturia on defense is going to make a difference in preventing that.
Thank you Walt and Bob for going for it in 2010-2014!

Hope that Jonny might come through one or twice given 4 plate appearances and that lefty Lewis might come through in a single pinch-hitting AB -- all other bench guys are RH hitters.

That'll work. 1-2-3 first for Reineke. 10 pitches. Not too shabby.

Linedrive to center from Votto. 2 down, Stubbs still at 2nd. It's up to Jay.

At least we're getting hard hit balls.
