    Reds 1st round draft pick...

Robert Stephenson RHP (high school) California

He's #30, the link won't go directly to his for some reason.

The Reds selected RHP Robert Stephenson with the 27th overall selection in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft on Monday. Stephenson, who has drawn some comparisons to Matt Garza, is one of the more intriguing high-school arms in this draft, with a fastball that has touched 97 mph and solid control. 97 mph fastball with solid control? I hate having those guys around...

I hear he throws around 92-93, given time and development he may hit 97. Everyone remembers hearing Homer was hitting 98... never happened, but he's still very effective.

Looks like this kid has good control though, looking forward to seeing what he does in A ball

Only 92-93? Like, anyone can do that, right?

According to Washington Athletics, Stephenson was the Gatorade Player of the Year in California after compiling an 8-2 record with a 1.19 ERA and 142 strikeouts over 76.1 innings this past year. He also threw back-to-back no-hitters, striking out 32 in the process. The Cincinnati Reds picked Stephenson with the 27th pick in the 2011 MLB Draft.

Satisfied with this pick. Not blown away, but satisfied.

I like it. The Reds needed a high-upside, potential future #1 guy that isn't Aroldis Chapman, and Stephenson could be one. Sure, he could be another Lotzkar, but now was the time to take the a chance on him.
