The recap for the day indicates that Yordanys Perez is 27 years old. Should be interesting.

It looks like most of the pitchers were relievers. I'm no expert on draft prospects, but this doesn't sound like a bunch with enough impact to build a foundation from. They may get a lot of useful guys, but outside of rounds 1 & 2 the most interesting guys look like the scouting director's kid and a 27 year old Cuban picked in the 28th round.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!
I bet that's a typo. The link above had him at 17.
Let's see who they sign. But I strongly disagree with who's interesting here. Pinckard, Garrett, Covington, Romano are all raw, high ceiling arms. Same for Cingrani, and maybe more. Not a great chance any reaches his ceiling, but there is a pretty deep pool of good arms here. Not a fan of the Buckley pick because nepotism selections bother me....They may get a lot of useful guys, but outside of rounds 1 & 2 the most interesting guys look like the scouting director's kid and a 27 year old Cuban picked in the 28th round.
MLB's Draft Tracker is showing him born in 1984.
BTW, whoever selected that font for the tracker should be summarily dismissed. The "Y" looks so much like a "V" and I checked some last names starting with "Y". Just a horribly indistinct font. Sorry for the typos yesterday. I think folks have corrected them.
I'm not going to be able to follow as closely today and report. I've got projects for three different clients I have to work on all day.

I'm guessing you would agree with me, but I'm willing to see how it plays out. Sounds like Buckley was acutely aware of that potential charge and was overruled by his staff. Imagine how we'd feel if he panned out elsewhere and questioned why the Reds let him get away. I doubt he gets a free pass. He'll have to prove himself like everyone else, maybe more so.

There are articles online from 2009 where he was playing in Cuba. Unless he was a top player in Cuba as a 15 year old while getting hits off of Aroldis Chapman, he is probably 27.
Chapman also had excellent control (10 strike outs) and his fastball was clocked at 100 MPH. However in the sixth inning, Yordanis Perez managed one of Ciego’s six hits followed by pinch hitter Mario Vega receiving a 99 MPH fastball on his left forearm to put two on. Chapman then gave up a liner to center by Adonis Garcia driving in the deciding runs.

After having a night to digest everything, my take on this draft is as follows:
1. If 2 of Stephenson, Rosa, Wright and Garret achieve their upside, this draft is a success.
2. Why do Buckley & co. love college relievers so much? Four of the top 10 picks either were or project to bullpen arms. IMO that's not how a small market team like the Reds unlock value through the draft.
3. It will be very interesting to see whether they can sign Garrett, Romano, Serrano and Phillips. I like drafting HS players after the top 10 rounds because I believe there is so much more upside/value. Those are frequently guys that will be first and second round picks 2-3 years from now. It's great to get them playing in your system earlier, especially if the opportunity cost is organizational filler.
4. Cole Green was a good ninth round pick. He could easily be another Sam LeCure at least.
5. Here are some ceiling comps I came up with off the top of my head:
Robert Stephenson - Homer Bailey or Matt Garza
Gabriel Rosa - Corey Hart with the ceiling of Carlos Beltran
Anthony Cingrani - somewhere between Matt Anderson (actual career not potential) and David Aardsma
Ryan Wright - Chris Valaika/Todd Frazier with the ceiling of Mark DeRosa or Todd Walker
Cole Green - Sam LeCure
Amir Garrett - Aroldis Chapman (2010/2011 Chapman not projected future Chapman)

Go BLUE!!!
Time will tell. I know Buckley knows hitters, so maybe his son has absorbed all that to be legit.Sounds like Buckley was acutely aware of that potential charge and was overruled by his staff.
