Geez, this Chapman issue is turning into quite the problem. A 30 million dollar problem to be exact.

Dayton pitches well again (Daniel Renken and Blaine Howell), but loses 1-0.

I don't see any pitchers drafted that will contend for the starting rotation within the next 2 and 1/2 seasons. The reluctance of the Reds to move Chapman back to starter defies logic. As for closer, worst case, they could always pick up Cordero's option for next year. Also, Christiani and Boxberger seem to be progressing well as potential back of the pen arms. Upper level starting pitching is the need. This year has shown how quickly pitching depth can be depleted.

I suspect the agenda at the moment is simply to build up some confidence in Chapman again and get him back to some kind of repeatable mechanics. I too would like to see him worked as a starter but I wouldn't draw any conclusions from what they're doing with him now.

Would it be easier to accomplish that as a starter or reliever? It seems to me that his comfort level would be higher as a starter, a role in which he has had past success.

I would. They are making him worse. He's more consistently bad than he ever was last year.
