WVRed, one correction from my typing yesterday. Round 28 is Yordanys Perez.

Sounds like Dennhardt will be signing.

Dennhardt, 21, said Wednesday that he is leaning toward signing with Cincinnati, rather than returning to Boston College for his senior season.

If Dennhardt, an Oradell native, signs with Cincinnati, he'll likely target the fall of 2012 for his return to pitching.

"The fact that the Cincinnati Reds are willing to invest in me really says a lot," Dennhardt said. "That's why I'm really thankful that they're giving me an opportunity and want to make sure I bounce back by putting me under their training staff, which I've heard is top of the line."

    Austin Robichaux

Austin said he plans to be on campus for the Cajuns in the fall unless the Reds give him an offer he can't refuse. He is pitching this summer for the Marucci Elite 18-and-under travel team and will work to gain as much weight as possible to his 6-5, 170-pound frame.

"As of now I am a Cajun," he said. "All I know so far is that the Reds are going to follow me over the summer. If they come to me with a great offer after watching me play I'm going to be all ears, but it's going to have to be something big."

    Shon Carson

He said Wednesday, though, that he’s not giving up on pro baseball just yet and will see what kind of money the Reds offer before making his decision. He hit .410 for Lake City this season with two homers and nine RBI. He stole 32 bases and went 6-1 as a pitcher with a 1.21 ERA. He struck out 86 in 52 innings.

“If it’s not what I’m looking for, then I’ll just go to South Carolina and play both sports,” he said.

    Carson Baranik

A third drafted player, incoming freshman Carson Baranik, tweeted Tuesday when he wasn’t taken in the first 30 rounds “ Well this made the decision very easy. #lsubound

With a scholarship to LSU in hand, the likelihood of Baranik signing with the Reds appears to be a long shot.

However, Baranik plans to allow the negotiating process to run its course.

"I'm going to talk to the Reds and see what they say," the two-time first-team Times All-City selection said. "Right now LSU looks like the place to go."

    Nicholas O'Shea

The Cincinnati Reds selected junior first baseman Nick O’Shea in the 24th round. O’Shea led the Gophers in home runs and RBIs en route to All-Big Ten Third Team honors.

O’Shea said Tuesday that he will likely not hear any official offer for several days but said that he will consider signing, depending on the negotiating process.

    Brooks Pinckard

Brooks Pinckard, a 2007 HHS graduate, was also selected last June in the 18th round by the Chicago Cubs but decided to return to Baylor. He was picked in the 10th round by the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday.

Pinckard, who said he also plans to sign a MLB contract soon, was a dual threat for the Bears, using his speed to steal 36 bases this season, but it’s his arm that will be utilized in the majors. He was 10-7 with a 3.69 earned run average, notching 16 saves in three seasons at Baylor.

    Daniel Bowman

After four Coastal Carolina players were selected on Tuesday, junior Daniel Bowman was the lone Chanticleer taken Wednesday on the final day of Major League Baseball's first-year player draft.

But unlike his teammates, Bowman plans to return next season to the Chants.

    Kyle McMyne

"This is unreal," said McMyne, who expects to leave school and become a professional. "It was a dream come true. It's everything that I was working toward since I was a little boy. I was a little nervous sitting around waiting. You get anxious hoping to see your name called.

"I think I am ready to go. This will be a very good opportunity for me."

Hugs, smiling, and interactive Twitter accounts, don't mean winning baseball. Until this community understands that we are cursed to relive the madness.

Jim Callis: If you don't sign a pick in the first two rounds, you get the choice after that pick in the next draft. If you don't sign a pick in third round, you get a choice after the third round in the next draft.

Ben (Miamisburg, OH): Could Reds 5th rd pick Ryan Wright be a candidate to get fast tracked with Brandon Phillips contract up after the 2012 season (assuming the Reds pick up his option for 2012)?

Jim Callis: Yes. I thought that was a nice grab in the fifth round. The Reds also have some nearly-ready middle infielders in Chris Valaika and Zack Cozart, so they don't have to rush Wright.

Ben (Miamisburg, OH): What is the ceiling for Reds 1st Pick Robert Stephenson?

Jim Callis: Frontline starter. 93-95 fastball, good curveball, good command

Guessing this guy actually is worthy of a 6-round pick? If you draft someone as a favor to someone in the org., its usually in the last 10-20 rds., not at #6.
