Mudcats down 4-0 in the fourth. Only two hits for the home team.

Carolina jumps behind 4-0 after 3 1/2. Singles by Phipps and Kahaulelio comprise the offensive thrust so far. Villareal's line is 4IP 6H 4ER 0BB 7K.

Edd Roush posts from the next world and beats me by a minute. =)

    1. Until he learns to play a better LF and a trade is made involving Gomes/Lewis, or Votto gets injured. Alonso would have to make starts in LF, because his defense is so bad that he couldn't be coming into the game late the same way that Heisey does. He doesn't play enough positions to merit a spot on the bench right now, anyway. Heisey is solid enough in his current role anyway; Alonso's true value is as a regular starter.

    2. Unlikely, but it depends on the state of the Reds starters. If they continue to struggle and get injured, putting additional strain on the bullpen and forcing guys like Lecure into spot starts, I'd say he has a shot. However, I don't see the rotation blowing up again the way it did to start the year, and he's got a lot of guys to compete with for even a replacement gig (Willis, Fisher, Horst, Thompson, and Burton once he's off the 60 day). The truth is that even if Chapman does go to AAA for long-term training, Horst and Arredondo have played well enough to earn a spot in front of him. He's got a long line to stand in.

Two-out blast by D'Anna gives Dayton a one-run lead after one full. Daniel Corcino is breathing fire for the Dragons. One hit and two Ks in the first.

I figure Yonder should be the 4th callup behind Cozart, Mes and Frazier. Maybe even try Hermida again before Yonder.

I wouldn't count on Lehr in Cincy at all.

Nice to see H Rod take his hot bat to Carolina.

Chapman a walk, a hit, 2 k's, and NO RUNS! How about that in his first inning.

    Corcino is on it: 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K. It's 3-0 Dayton.

Couple runs in Chapman's second inning which he did not finish. Time to worry?

    Yes.

Meanwhile, time for Corcino and Josh Smith to make a trip out west to Bakersfield.

He left early because reached his pitch count.

Tabor cashed him in for that second run.

He hit 100 once and hit 98 a few times but mostly worked in the low to mid 90s. His control was all over the place though. He got one guy out with a nasty slider.

On another note, Joseph looked good tonight. He stayed at 94 and hit 96 twice. Seven of his last eight outings have been scoreless.

I assume Corcino will get promoted after the league all star game.
