When the Yankees come into town--a (slim) chance to see history

    Something I was thinking of....

Derek Jeter is 10 hits away from 3,000, and with 10 games left until they come to Cincinnati, there is an OUTSIDE chance we could see a piece of history.

Granted, he would have to fall into a fairly substantial slump, but still worth pointing out.

If he's close, I hear the Yankees are going to sit him until they go back home, so he can do it in front of their fans.

lol Jeter is not going to sit out games, he's out there every day. Maybe he would sit the final game of the series if he's at 2998 or 2999.

It wouldn't be that big of a slump, he's averaging just over a hit a game this year and last year. He'll probably get there in Chicago though.

He would be the first Yankee with 3,000 hits.

Yeah, I was going to say that one hit per game would actually be a little above average for Jeter these days. Not outside the realm of possibility.

If so, those games will be on ESPN. Book it.

The Monday game is already on ESPN, Wed is a day game so MLB network could pick it up maybe. Their Sat and Sun games with Cubs are on FOX and ESPN also.

I would hope that fans would be classy enough to give him a standing ovation if it occurs in Cincy, which I hope it does.

I had no idea that was the case. Does Dave Winfield and Wade Boggs technically not count?

Jeter would be the first with all 3,000 coming with the yankees..It's crazy Gehrig, Ruth, or even Dimmagio never did it

Jeter with 2 hits today, not good for those hoping to see 3000 in Cincy. 7 hits away with 7 games before coming to town.

It would be greater to see him go hitless in Cincinnati.

...Jeter got injured in yersterday's game. Right now they don't know what his status will be. Heard on SportsCenter that it was a calf muscle.
