A couple of noteworthy events in Cincinnati Reds' baseball history took place on the 14th of June - both times in 11 innings - and neither was positive.

1870 - The Cincinnati Red Stockings lost their first game ever as professionals. It was their first loss in two years - a feat I personally would love to see repeated. The Brooklyn Atlantics took them out in 11 innings.
The game was tied after 9 innings and a 5-5 draw offer was extended. However, the Red Stockings' captain insisted on playing on. Cincinnati scored twice in the top of the 11th but the Atlantics rallied for three in the bottom half of the frame. 8-7 was the unhappy final.

1965 - Jim Maloney was masterful in one of the finest pitching performances in MLB history. He held the Mets hitless for nine innings. Unfortunately the Reds' bats were dormant on this particular evening and the game headed for extra innings. A hitless 10 then followed. At this juncture Maloney had retired 19 consecutive Metropolitans. A leadoff homer in the 11th gave New York the lead and they held on to win by a score of 1-0. Maloney struck out 18 and walked just one batter.
