    Curiosity

I'm just wondering why these moves aren't made, maybe somebody knows more than I do about why some of these things aren't happening.

    1. Call-up Zach Cosart and DFA Renteria.

    2. Our LFers suck. So why not call up Alonso and see what you have in the guy and if he's a MLB player.

    3. Trade Hanigan to a team who needs a catcher for some type of MLB SP. Then call up Mesoraco.

    4. I'm a Scott Rolen fan, but I just think it's only a matter of time before his body just can't take it anymore. So we need to find out what we have in Todd Frazier and/or Juan Francisco.

    5. Move Yasmani Grandal up to AA.

I know I'm a fan and I want these things to happen and maybe I don't know all the ramifications or whatever, but these are all moves that are possible. And it's not like I'm suggesting anything crazy.

    Re: Curiosity

    1. Probably going to happen
    2. From what I hear Alonso is below average defensively, and he was up here at the end of last year and didn't do much at all. If our plans are to shop him he's more valuable tearing it up in AAA than he is struggling again up here.
    3. I don't think we want to break up the catching duo this year. On his own Hanigan isn't going to bring back a lot in return anyway.
    4. Yeah I wonder that, too. Our super sub Cairo has made that a little difficult though.
    5. Yeah

    Re: Curiosity

I don't know if Cozart is quite ready, IMO order of readiness:

    1 Mes Last 700 PA - 950 + OPS
    2 Sappelt Last 2 years mid 900's OPS 1500 + minor league PA w/ mid 800's OPS
3 Frazier - almost 1000 PA in Louisville 800 OPS - what position?
4 Alonso - 700 PA at Louisville mid 800's OPS
5 Cozart - 100 + point jump in OPS from last year, like to see more PA of success / growing confidence a mid 700's guy before this year.

The guy that should move up, IMO is boxberger, I'd love to see if he could be Louisville's closer - 50 K's in 30 IP.

I believe Sappelt would have been here, had he not been injured. As stated in another post, how do you keep Hermedia down,he's been the leader in IAAA batting.

    Re: Curiosity

The 2 guys that should be up here without a doubt are Cozart and Sappelt.

I wouldn't trade Hanigan. Hernandez will be gone next year, and I like the doubleheaded catching tandem. Hanoraco.

It will be interesting in the offseason to see if Rolen retires.

Just my thoughts on why they haven't happened...

    1. Many factors here, but none of them individually are deal breakers. They won't want to DFA Renteria and lose rights to him because he was primarily brought on to replace the leadership and playoff experience of Cabrera. His stats in April/May/June don't really affect that. Someone would claim him at his small salary. Cozart is no sure thing. What happens if he comes up and struggles and now Renteria isn't in the ORG? Overall, I wouldn't mind it if things don't improve soon at SS, but I wouldn't rush it either.

    2. They aren't going to callup Alonso until they are ready to play him every day. He is too important of a prospect to callup for a time share. I think they'd like to exhaust their current options on the roster before relegating all of those guys to every-day status on the bench and either demoting/DFA'ng someone. Do you believe they have done this? Would you say that all of Gomes/Heisey/Lewis have been given a fair shot to know that its time to pull the plug on them as starters going forward? Thats an honest question that is open to opinion for each of us.

    3. I don't expect a trade at catcher. The plan for a while has been to ride out Ramon/Hannigan this year and then move to Mes/Hannigan next year. I don't see any reason to change that plan now. For what its worth, I expect Mes will be a Sept callup this year and may steal some PT at that time.

    4. How do you do that? By benching Rolen and playing those guys? I don't think thats realistic. I'm as interested as the next guy in whether those 2 guys are viable options at 3b moving forward, but this isn't the time to experiment. I agree that Rolen looks old out there right now. I just don't see a reasonable answer to that "problem". You can't carry unlimited 3rd basemen. I think those guys are on standby in case of DL, but if Rolen doesn't have any real injury shut him down, I think the Reds will stick with him.

    5. This is the one I know the least about. The Reds are normally pretty slow at moving guys through the system and I don't see any reason to get worked up about whether anyone is A or AA.

Overall, I don't hate your suggestions for the roster at all. I just think the Reds have some pretty legit reasons for doing what they're doing especially mid pennant race.

    Just Assuming

    1. They want to move Renteria not release him, plus they are happy with Janish's defense
    2. They do not want to start the arbitration clock on Alonso, plus he is horrible in LF
    3. Mesoraco not on 40 man roster, and Razor would be the one traded
    4. NO IDEA, Rolen is good when he plays every other day. bring up Juan and let Rolen tutor him
    5. They want him to cut down on Strike Outs before moving him up, he is a K 28% of the time

His strike outs aren't really a problem, he really is a K only 22% of the time....

He's 3rd in the league in BB's while 25th in K's, or getting on base at a .418 clip on balls not in play, I'd take that.

One of the best posts I have read on this site. The only thing I disagree with is Renteria. How can he be a untility infielder if he refuses to play anywhere but SS. He has no range in the field and is not hitting any better than Janish. I'm just not sold on him. I don't understand why he is getting so many starts. I'm waiting on his upside but can't figure it out. How does it help to bench Janish in favor of him.
