Isn't this the sort of thing that got Krivsky fired?

If you are riding a hot streak or hitting for a high average it is pretty much impossible to not have a higher than normal BABIP. Even with regression toward the mean he can't be a worse option than out current SS's. Hopefully we see him on board.

Agreed. Thus the "tiny shoes" comment.

My guess is Zack is with this team tomorrow. He was out of the lineup today and I have got to believe they are frustrated with Renteria and he is sent packing.

Why are we so sure it wouldn't be Janish? Does he have options?

I could also see Dusty wanting to keep Renteria and breaking in Cozart rather slowly over time, because that's the way he rolls.

    Just a thought.

Well you have to take into consideration that Janish plays better defense. My speech to Janish is you had the oppertunity to prove yourself as an every day SS and we feel its time to give way to Cozart. Use Janish as a defensive replacement either at SS or better yet 3rd.

I saw earlier that Fay wrote that Janish has options but I don't remember where I saw it. It may have been in his chat.

If you release Renteria and Cozart doesn't work out?

I'd flip Janish and Cozart. If Cozart looks like he can handle the bigs, release Renteria and call up Janish for the back up glove.

If Cozart bombs, he'll still outplay Renteria, so the Reds would lose nothing. Renteria is hitting .222/.301/.248/.549 right now. Couple that with his atrocious defense and you have one of the worst players in all of baseball.

I just wouldn't release Edgar until we are sure he is the 3rd best SS in the organization. Considering I am of the belief that Edgar and Paul are practically of same value from this point on, I'd wait to ship someone out permanently, until I was SURE it was the right move.

I agree by far that is the best thing to do, just wonder if Dusty's sway may change that, or is holding moves up a bit if nothing else (give "my guys" more time Walt).

But if Janish has options and he accepts a demotion, that would probably be the obvious move.

Renteria's OPS is .017 higher than Janish's. Janish clearly is lacking in offensive talent, but at least he can field.

I think Cozart will be up Friday and Renteria will be designated for assignment. Just like Fay says in his blog.

Dusty plays young guys plenty and he won't insist on Renteria. I don't believe they'll drop Janish.

I think Cozart will help but the key move would be a trade of some AAA talent for a left fielder.

I know. And I'm not gonna fight tooth and nail over it. Just pointing out my reasoning.
